Money? I know elderly people who can't afford to keep their heat above 55F. You think high oil prices are helping them?

You think oil is helping the planet and future generations? I know it's helping the wealthy oil trader I went to high school with.
Is that what you think your doing when you burn 170 gallons to "catch a couple of fish", keeping the dollar strong?

Man has funny way of thinking, he always finds a way to justify his personal actions regardless how dismissive of and destructive to his fellow man those actions are.

R

no, but me consuming oil and related products has very little to do with the current rise in prices we are seeing. You can thank the US Gov't for that for bailing out the banks and other big companies.

You should direct your anger towards the Federal Reserve and US Treasury, not me.

The Amish probably would consider everyone on here irresponsible as well as being poor stewards of the land and its resources, how far down the industrialized chain do we need to go in order to justify our actions?

hey robd, so let me make sure i understand what your saying, we should all cave in and give up a standard of living we have worked hard for and earned, in order to make it easier for the guys on wall street and the oil guys, can make more money than they can ever spend? I agree that a person has to help themself make it through these tough times, but it should have never come to this, and it is unbelieveable, how many people buy into the economic rhetoric our own goverment is feeding us. Wake up people, the oil guys are the government. i dont have any answers for the problems, but i do know when i am being lied too, and its getting really old, and what is getting even older, is listening to people who defend this economic garbage. I aint buying this story of more chinese using fuel, give me a break, they are a communist country, where most people are working the outsourced jobs we sent them from the good ole usa, and still cant afford to feed themselves, let alone buy a car. I know everyone has an opinion about this whole fuel deal, but mine is pretty basic, it is just another deal, to break the back of the middle class, and all boils down pure greed. I really dont think we will see and end to it until once again it brings our economy to its knees, AGAIN. Unbelievable to me how many people try to justify and go along with the dirty deeds of wall st and our own government. like a bunch of lambs being led to slaugter.........

I'm pretty much with RobD on this one and have been for almost 40 years. But I'm also with all the folks whose lives and livelihoods depend on fossil fuels. Hard times ahead. Maybe if we'd listened to Jimmy Carter back in the 70's things would be different now. But we didn't and now making a transition, a real change in how we get energy and how we use it, will be agonizingly difficult, painful, and costly.

Back in the 70's I wanted to see a much higher tax on fossil fuels and the money raised applied to implementing renewable energy. No way. It's dump Carter and drill baby drill.

Sure there's still oil to be found even in the U.S. but every new well has to go deeper and cost more and present a bigger danger to the environment. Look what happened last year in the Gulf of Mexico. Millions of gallons of oil wasted, still uncounted billions of dollars wasted, and a very beautiful and valuable environment devastated. We cannot drill our way out of trouble.

Doesn't do much good to blame Wall Street and Washington either. They are in the same box we all are in. The only way to get elected is to tell people what they want to hear. The only way to get rich is to sell people stuff they want to buy. We did it to ourselves and now must pay the price.

There will be many, many casualties of cheap oil over the next few years. If you really understand that and try to do something about it you might not suffer as much. But no matter what you do it probably won't be enough to sustain your current lifestyle.

This will kill allot of guys like me that are self employed and rely on Diesel power to haul equipment, especially since I am locked mostly in contract work.

I have heard little out of DC, so I think it's safe to assume what I've heard as true, that the "one" in charge is all for higher prices.

Stop and really crush your brain, see all the ramifications for a sudden rise in oil to the heights that are predicted. Tonight on the news they said there has already begone a rapid drop in fuel purchased by Americans and smaller amount bought when purchased. Wont be long and we will have some major decisions to make in our personal spending.

What will happen to this economy will be a self inflicted wound.

I will sure be at the polls in 2012, IF I CAN AFFORD THE FUEL TO GET THERE!!!
Western..............I'm not coming down on you specifically, but with that said.

Obama said.............long before the elections............during the last price hike............that he was happy with the price of gasoline, and would like to see it higher..............but wanted the price to go up a little slower.

Those were his words, and anyone that listened to his run for office knew this going in.

He also said that he would put a stop to, or seriously curtail the use of coal for generating electricity.............check the stats on electricity generated by coal in the USA, and tell me how this will affect us.

Obama is against nuclear power.

Where we gonna get our electric from???

People need to listen and think before they cast votes.

Another point I will add to the futures study listed in a previous post..............when you have a President, that institutes a moratorium on oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, whatcha think that is going to do to oil prices worldwide???

Also keep in mind that his moratorium was ruled unconstitutional by a Federal Judge, and that the moratorium is now considered "contempt of court", because it was not lifted................

You'll be darn lucky if ya see anything less than 10 dollar a gallon diesel by this fall!

Elections have consequences!!!

Change you can believe in......................

I think maybe you should leave Vermont and take a trip to the Gulf................the only 'devastation' is the loss of jobs due the Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man.............I really need to stay out of threads like this.

The mentality expressed here..............OMG.

Sit in Vermont, and try to tell the people swimming, boating and fishing in the Gulf that their lives are devastated by an oil spill...............GEEZ

When the last guy was in there and there was big run up there was no bailout
of banks and companies so what caused that one?

I kept hearing this over and over, "Oh President Bush doesn't have anything to do with the price gas", so now the President does, which is it?

Do you honestly think diesel is going to $10/gallon by Fall?

You need to turn off Fox News.

No new permits? Well that's odd:

First deep-water oil drilling permit since Gulf oil spill plays it safe - CSMonitor.com

It appears that a moratorium was already in place until 2022 that was put in place in 2006 and I believe there was a Republican in White House in 2006:

copied from the above link:

""We know now after the BP disaster that an oil blowout in the Gulf can really harm Florida's tourism industry, and jobs and fishing and look what it did to tourism," she says. "And we're still suffering those economic impacts and fighting and scraping for compensation for our small business owners and hotels and motels."

A moratorium is already in place. In 2006, Congress agreed to ban drilling in an area up to 300 miles off the Gulf coast until 2022. The announcement ends any thoughts the administration might re-open the region to exploration."

I'm a bit confused on this whole moratorium thing because this site says it was lifted Oct 12, 2010.

Confusion can become a problem when relying on unreliable news sources..............kinda like the gulf oil devastation that is happening today, as per our Vermont sources.
