As a kid, we fed our pigs in homemade wooden troughs. The troughs seemed to last for years. I don't remember what kind of wood they were made of, might have been pine. Basically, you took a couple 2x12s and screwed them together lengthways at a 90 degree angle to make a v-shaped trough. Screw a approx. 2' long 2x12 on each end to close in the trough and keep the trough sitting upright and you're done. Since the troughs were kept outside, the wood swelled and formed a tight seal that could hold water. Eddie, you could make one in about 5 or 10 minutes.

Same here. I used oak. I made the V sit flat on the ground so weight could not stress it, and put a bit of flour and corn meal in it along with water to seal the joints. They do last quite a long time. I used nail instead of screws, but screws would probably be much better.

Today I spent most of my time smoothing out an area with my dozer. At first, Oscar was playing chicken by darting in front of it while I drove along. He's much faster then the dozer, so he was pretty safe in his little game. Sadly, he decided to do this one time too many, and while I was turning. The blade caught him really good, and sent him rolling.

He got up, ran off to a safe distance and just stood there for awhile. I figured he was either going to be alright, or he wasn't. Either way, there wasn't anything I could do about it. Fortunately, he was just stunned.

As I drove off to move some dirt and spread it around, Oscar joined me. He was behind me for awhile, then beside me. He never got in front of the blade again, and I think he learned a lesson be getting hit like he did.

When I parked the dozer, he started to clean off the blade. It was kind of fun to see, so I took a quick video with my Droid phone. I haven't figured out how to get that from my phone to my computer, but maybe I need to try to just go straight to youtube? Any other ideas?

Eddie

That is a tough pig.

I wouldn't come out nearly as well after being kissed by the blade.

Wow! I see a new business opportunity, Oscar's Equipment Cleaning. Oscar gets to play in the mud and you get some "jingle" in your pocket.:D
