I know a farmer near by that farms several thousand acres. I few years back he bought 3 new 8320 front wheel assist tractors in the spring. That summer the dealer asked him to trade them in for 3 new ones and shot him an all most unbelieveable deal like you are describing. The reason for this was they were having trouble moving new tractors but the used tractor market was going nuts. They were needing low houred used tractors and they didn't have them. So that fall they had 3 more new 8320's and the dealer sold all 3 of the low houred used ones. At any rate the dealer is going to make some money somewhere on this deal if not with you it will be the guy that buys your used tractor.

hmmm. why not just lower the price of the new tractor????? there way overpriced

I wonder how price compares with here in Canada. With our higher Canadian dollar I wonder if he is hoping to attract Canadian buyers if they can buy used from him for a fair saving over new here in Canada.

That could be but since JD has made the same offer in Canada as posted above I doubt it. Is there a tariff difference on bring in used vs new equipment from USA?

problem with that.....when you try to take it back across the boarder...they will nail you with taraffs.......i almost sold my used JD to a Canadian farmer...but he found the tax was ridiculously high for a 14 yo tractor. it sucks.

Does JD put a date on when their tractors were built? I wonder if they found a warehouse full of them and need to move them so they got a few of their premier dealers to move them. Either way if it works out, good for you.

In 2007 I saved a lot by buying a used Kubota B3030HSDC in the USA and bringing it into Canada. There is no duty on tractors but you pay the federal and provincial tax. You would have to pay that anyway if buying in Canada.

That would be true for NEW purchase and USED from a dealer, however, if one can find a good used private deal it's highly unlikely there would be provincial / federal taxes applicable, unless the purchaser decides to self report.

At the moment it's not particularly profitable for a CDN to purchase to purchase in the US unless there is a significant price advantage in the first place. With the current premium on the CDN $$ and (13% depending on province) tax hit on crossing the border you have to purchase 15% - 18% lower, just to break even.
