For my use on hills, winding trails, and lots of mowing in irregular spaces I could not have imagined how dramatically easier the HST has made it over my previous gear tractor. I was completely comfortable with the gear tractor and never consciously thought about shifting, etc.
But Sulla's post made me realise why the HST is so much easier for my type of work. i.e. you can completely concentrate on the work at hand.
Also, I used my dad's Mahindra 4110 (synchro-shift, or shuttle or whatever it is, it requires use of the clutch to change between forward & reverse) last weekend to use my new grading scraper in a tight area, & having to keep my left foot way over on the clutch most of the time requires a higher degree of body rotation that gets old(er) fast(er). Meaning, when I use my HST to do work where I'm looking back a lot, although I didn't realize it before, my left foot kinda slides across to the middle of the floor board, so my trunk's rotation between torso & hips is less, & it's easier on me.
