If it truly is an attempt to mislead a buyer, then I also have a problem with it.

For example, if this was sitting on a dealer lot, and they are the onle that repainted/stickered it, and advertised it as a deere, then that is a big no-no.

But for a casual homeowner who wanted a bushhog brand implement to match his deere tractor, and paints it green and throws some stickers on it, and then somewhere down the line it exchanges hands a few times, to me, it is what it is.

I dont know the whole story here, But I honestly dont think anyone is trying to be mis-leading here. But that is just my opinion.

I was actually lucky enough to be in the same situation only reversed last summer. I bought an 8' landscape rake with wheels that was painted ford blue to match the guys 3000. Turns out it was a deere rake. (after sanding to paint and uncovering green paint is when I investigated and found out).

I paid $150 for the rake. Cleaned up, a fresh paint job and factor deere stickers and I was able to sell it as a "deere rake" for $400:thumbsup:

Fact is, people paint implements to match their tractors all the time. While the stickers may be a bit much, I dont think the goal was to mis-lead. Heck, I put a chevy emblem on my brothers ford:laughing: Thought maybe that would make it run better:laughing:

Yep id say bushhog from the gearbox the tailwheel setup and the fact that the tag says sq60 for squealer 60". Ken i'm gonna come to your neck of the woods and buy stuff! Around here that would be in the 300-400$ range easy. Like said the patches look pro. The bushhog is one of the better brands and the gearboxes are tough!

I too dont think it was to mislead. If anyone did it was the Deere dealer trying to pass it off on one of his city moved to my hobbyfarm so i have to buy a brand New JD tractor type that wont know. As Roy mentioned anyone half into this stuff would notice the BH brand gearbos and know deere dont use them? Now if true deceit was intended they would have ground off and made that gearbox smooth so you could not read the cast BH name in it and ground off the ID plate. That would really get even a have educated person not thinking it was a BH. I would buy it all day long assuming oil was in it and it did not clunk about when spun up for $350.

Same here.
$150 wouldn't even buy a working one around here. You might get a rusted out one with parts missing for that. :confused2:

I was thinking that an entrepreneur could go to that sale Ken's talking about, buy a truck load of them for $150 each, bring them home and sell them, and buy a vacation home in the Bahama's.

"Intend to mislead"???? Not hardly. Sorta like counterfeiting $1 bills there, I'd say. (Bashed up, patched together, probably tortured to near death mower that started out life as a low cost model to begin with...)

Someone threw a few (dozen) patch plates at it, soaked it in green paint (it's gotta be some color) and put on a JD emblem that was laying around.......... I just don't see JD lawyers rushing to the scene over patent infringement issues

There's a SLIGHT chance it could be a decent mower. Better odds it's beat to that near death situation I referred earlier. If you REALLY REALLY want a CHEAP used mower, take a GOOD look at it, see if it looks structurally sound, check the gear box as best you can, blades are replacable and fairly inexpensive. Not my cup of tea though....

in my area that would be about a 200-300$ mower...

ditto what FWJ said.

check the gearbox and see if it leaks or is loose or packed with grease.. see if the metal is sound. if the gearbox is ok, metal is sound and blades are average.. the price I stated is about average for it.

i've gotten 6' older more beat up mpwers for free ones that needed grease in the box and welding to make them work... etc. those are the things you just don't want to buy unless very, very cheap..

Ended picking it up for $200. Brand new blades, brand new stump jumper. Told me straight up it was a bush hog and the only paint he had was JD green. Oil was in the gearbox and metal is good. I had a **** of a time adjusting the PTO shaft as it was 'frozen' from sitting for a while. Once I hooked it up, it ran perfectly. No vibrations, no leaking oil. Good buy in my opinion!

Thanks for all the info everyone.
