Buying Advice Choosing between BX1860 and BX2360

   / Choosing between BX1860 and BX2360 #11
I did the BX comparison 1 1/2 yrs ago and for the money decided that the 2660 was best for me. Better seat ;) and highest hp for the 3ph. It was really the pto power that decided the deal for me. In your circumstance, given the good, better, best offering, The middle of the road isn't a bad compromise.

My BX2360 is scheduled for delivery next Wednesday. I'm on 2 acres of flat land with swamp and weeds and horse manure to contend with, in addition to mowing the lawn. The deciding factor for me was the added PTO power. From what I'm reading, including on the Kubota website, ground-engaging implements are somewhat limited with the 1860. And I suspect the resale will be better with the 2360.

May i ask, if ones buys a bx2360, can the seat not be replaced later with a seat off a 2660? I am having a hard time paying $1200 more for 3Hp and the seat. Plus i hear the 2660 motor is much different, and the bx25 has the 2360 motor, not the larger motor.

Thank you!! great info on this board.

1 acre lot. 1/2 acre of grass and another 1/4 acre that will be cleared of brush and turned into lawn and gardens.
Will be moving dirt/mulch/rock (3/4" through stone wall size)
Need to mow.
Need to regrade parts of the yard.
Yard is mostly flat with a couple of slight inclines (4' drop in 100')

I think the 1860 is well suited for these tasks

Chipper (If I could borrow one from a friend, not a deal breaker)
Moldboard plow
Disk harrow
Box scraper

Most chippers require 22-24 hp min. at the PTO. You're not even close to that. You will overtax the torque and lug down. You need a 2660 for the chipper. Depending upon your soil conditions, the 1860 may be o.k. with those ground engagement implements. If you have sandy loam that's not root bound, you're fine. If you have hard packed clay and lots of roots, the 1860 is underpowered.

Regarding the engine, what matters is torque, not peak hp which is achieved at the higher rpm that one engine has over the other.

This has all been discussed previously and as in so many things it is all relative. The BX2660 as a package after looking at the 2360 was well worth the added cost to me and my wife and to others it won't be.

I don't remember who, but someone looked into getting the 2660 seat on the 2360, but the price was such they just got the 2660.

At my age comfort is much more important and elusive than when I was younger.

On 1 acre the 1860 should be spot on. As for pto power you can control the feed, speed or whatever for that job. If you feel like spending extra for the 2360 thats your call. I have the 2360 and manage 5 acres with it. In 99% of what I do I would not miss a that small difference in HP.

A friend of mine purchased the 2360 several years ago for his 1 1/2 acre lot. He did a few small chores (that the 1860 would have handled easily), now he just mows grass and moves snow with the FEL.

I looked at both ( side by side ) and liked the larger rear tyres , larger
front wheels and tyres and the engine is much bigger . Happy with what
I want from it........... Ask yourself this ; if they were the same
price , would you take an 18 or a 23 ? That's a starting point for
your mind
