Hi All,

Just dropped a pretty penny on a new FEL for my 3010. LOVE IT, except the fact that my rear tires barely stay on the ground with a load of dirt in the bucket!! Not a very enjoyable experience.

I would like to purchase some cast Iron weights for my rear rims and was wondering how much these typically cost? Are they simple to install or would you recommend a dealer install them?? Is there an aftermarket source for these?

I would like to get out and do some work but the stability has become almost unsafe, need some help and advice on how to proceed,

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Yep they are kinda useless without rear ballast. I think your best bet is to rig up a weight for the 3pt. I have 360# of cast on my wheels and it helps but is not enough. I hang 1300# on the 3pt and I can most use the full lift capacity of my loader.

You need rear ballast, bigtime. You can get a lot more weight in the rear tires if you have them filled. Rimguard is what I have and is supposed to be great as it is some leftover from processing sugar beets, and it doesn't freeze to very low temps. Plus, if it leaks it won't kill grass like antifreeze.

Adding ballast to the 3 pt is also very helpful as it has a leverage effect around the rear axle and actually takes load off the front axle (think about it and it makes sense). A box blade is the common implement used for rear ballast as many people have them, they are heavy, and they don't stick out too far so it doesn't hurt maneuverability much. You can also get or make ballast boxes.

Wheel weights are really expensive and as a result I fill my tires and put weight on the 3-point as recommended by dstig1. You can get by with just weight on the 3 point hitch as some do, but you will need a lot more. I have filled tires and 600 to 1000 on my 3PH on my L5030 HSTC.

I never tried this before - a link to a post I made a couple weeks ago with pictures of how the cast wheel weights look. Total for the 3 weights per side, 620#, and cost me $600. I went with the cast weights because of past problems with any kind of tire ballast; however, the cast weights add only about half the weight of Rim Guard or CaCl2.
