Mine does not do that at all. I would be calling the dealer.

We used ours to bush hog for the first time Friday, it had a Bush Hog SQ720
behind it and going down hill you couldn't have asked for a more smooth and
controlled descent, absolutely no surging, jerking, grabbing, etc. I was blown
away although I only used it for a very short period. Ran it in Med. range, 4WD
and the engine running right 2500 rpms which gives you about 520 rpms on
the rear PTO.

There's something not right about your tractor, hopefully it came from a dealer
like ours and is willing and able to diagnose the problem.

BTW and OT, it dropped a bar on the fuel gauge right about the time my wife
started, she said, and when she got through it had only dropped one more bar,
not bad considering over 3 acres were mowed, now if only the lawnmower was
that efficient ;-)

It is not the tires slipping it is in 4wd and was on a concrete boat ramp. The oil is full and it did it in high gear low. I tried it in all hydro modes. A friend has a new 3840 or whatever that size is that I will try when I get up his house.

I'd be in low as an extreme but the middle range would or should work the best.

What was the outcome of this situation?

If you are in Auto H-DS you can hit a point where it will be shifting the hydro motor between high (rabbit) and low (turtle). I was goofing around with my L5740 today and found I could hit a point where it was frequently shifting. If I wasn't looking at the lights and saw it cycling between the 2, I would have wondered if something was wrong. Not saying this is your problem but it is something to check.

We have a very steep paved driveway. Going down the driveway in the 5240 (8-11 mph, high range, auto ds off, autothrottle on, cab, loaded rears) you can feel the tractor pick up speed to a point where the tranny "catches" and slows down. It almost feel like you let up slightly on the pedal (no, the pedal is steady and it can happen under cruise). This can happen more than once if the hill is long. This is noticeable from the seat but you dont see any difference in the tach or speedo. I don't see this in medium range or on flat surfaces or off road (who can do 10 mph off road?).

This is not the rear tires sliding, I had that happen before they were loaded. It feels more like the tranny is trying to maintain speed while the tractor is accelerating down the hill, so it is under power to a point than slows down as the tractor picks up speed than goes back under power. I have the same situation with the John Deere hydrostatic lawn mower.

If you remember my 1st post, page2, I have done some testing unloading off the trailer. If it is H range it will break free for a quick split second. I used M range and there was no free roll during the unloading off the trailer. This spliter tranny is awesome, I tent to use H range more often with this tractor. I feel better now. Thought I would share.

Steep boat ramp, off loading trailer, AND IN HIGH RANGE?
:confused2:
Slow and safe in these conditions and easier on your drive train as well.

I agree High range and high gear on the column is best left for flat ground and no loads. OT: I sure like the Hi-Lo lever on the column very handy.

Yep sure do, high range splitter in low at a idel to 1000 rpm, has plenty of power even with landpride OS1572, just heavy enough with loader off the front tires will have a day lite crack under them while loading on trailer just after dovetail to flat trailer floor. all ways have hand on 3 point lever just incase. need front weights.
