ethanol has an affinity for water.. and yeah.. year old gas might be an issue.

that 3400 should be a stock 12v system.. if it's all oem I'd expect ressitor wire and a 6v coil ( like a napa ic8). if new wire and whatnot.. I'd get a napa ic14sb 16$ 12v coil.. no resistor needed.

Yes the coil says it required a resistor wire, from schematic drawing i concluded 2nd wire attached to positive terminal was a resister wire. I tried plowing again 6/2, ran and worked for approx 45 minutes. Then it acts as if no fuel is coming in. Wait 5 minutes and will start and run for 30 seconds then out of fuel again. Ran ok last year on 100% gas. I am going to buy some 100% gas again, nearest station approx 50 miles away. Thanks for the ideas. Joe

the coil needs to have a built in resistor i was having the same problem on a 3000 ford and put a new coil on and it didn't fix the problem i fought with the tractor for 3 months casing electrical and fuel systems to find the problem then decide to get a coil that had a built in resistor and problem solve the lady that owns the tractor has been using it bush hoging 10 acres for the last year

someone likely rewired it and did not use resistor wire in the coil circuit. seen that alot.
the OP's problem almost is sounding like a fuel obstruction at the fuel pump or similar as it sounds like it is starving and only slowly filling the bowl.. then starting and running it i=out fast.

then it shouldn't run for 45 min the start messing up i would believe the bowl should empty alot faster than that and when it started running it should pull enough vacume to pull full through the pump
but the tractor i worked on that needed a coil with internal resistor was factory the tractor had never had anything done to it but the oil changed. it only had 600 hrs

the only fuel problem that i know will cause it to act like this is the valve in the bottom of the tank either the filter it trying to clog up are the screen it pluged and when running it sucks debree into the valve opening

while the round coils are generally bullet proof.. the older 'dry' potted ones just don't handle the heat nearly as good as the newer oil potted ones. ( which i prefer ).
i wish someone would come up with a good ford N front mount coil direct replacement. I realize they have blank off caps.. and I have even made one, to use a modern coil.. but the technology ( perhaps not the demand? ) is certaintly here to do it.
I've often thought about gutting a metal cased 6v square coil and using one of those square ignition coils like my 98 dodge ram uses.. should be able to fit it all in the oem can and re-rivit the top, and have a way sufficient 12v coil..

Thanks for the ideas, from what i can see this tractor is gravity fed gas. no fuel pump, It has a holley carb on it. I plan on removing the intank filter this weekend. A friend suggested the float may not be set correctly, carb was taken apart last summer. but i did plow snow with no problems, although i was not running at high rpm's. Sooner or later we will solve this, thanks again, Joe
