Oil & Fuel "Enviro-Flo" Diesel Cans

Hello all, brand new to the forum and was wondering if I could pick your all's brains. I have a brand new JD 2520 (haven't even had time to post pictures yet!) and need to find a functional diesel can to store diesel in for her. My dad has a couple of older cans that don't have the government's "Enviro Flow" valve on them. Been just taking his diesel, putting it in my tractor, and then re-filling his can because I'm not a fan of the new valves. I have a one gallon enviro flow for my Stihl weedeater, and even with that small of a can I always manage to spill more than I do with the traditional spouts.

Here is a link to one at Tractor Supply, and the review there from another customer is exactly how I feel. I don't want to be spilling diesel all over the hood of my tractor, floor of my barn, driveway, yard, etc. Does anyone know of a "new" can that is functional and practical? Or do I just need to hit the yard sales and flea markets?

first off welcome to the group. I have a Kioti and its fuel lid is on top so maybe this will not help much. I got a $0.79 funnel from walmart nice big end on it and that keeps the diesel off my tractor.

I DESPISE the new fuel cans. I'm with you, I spill more using the stupid safety features than I do with a good old can.

I have two OLD galv. Eagle gans that I guard with my life and even a couple old plastic ones that were pretty good.

I have a Fuel Caddy for all the gasoline yard equipment and love it. They make a 25 gallon Diesel version that I was thinking about getting, but I am only 8/10ths of a mile from the filling station, so I think I'll just be registering the tractor and driving up there and keep a 5 gallon can for back-up...

I gave up on cans years ago for Diesel. I have a 55 gal drum strapped to a pallet with wheels and a hand drum pump. I just pull the tractor into the barn, wheel the drum over to it, stick the hose in and pump. No mess and it's a lot easier than holding a 20 Lb can over your hood. I also buy off road Diesel just because I hate paying taxes for no reason.

You could do the same with a grease lug or even a 5 gal pail with a pump. You could also do what my buddy does, get one of the 15 Gal transfer tanks with the hose from TSC. He puts it on a pallet to raise it up higher than the hood and it flows pretty good.

Cost. The 55Gal drum was a freebee from the quick oil change place in town, the pallet was a freebie, the pump was $20, hose $5 and the wheels were $5 ea from the hardware store in town. Total cost $45

Just make sure you don't store diesel fuel in galvanized containers. I also guard all my pre-government mandate fuel cans. I don't have any of the new ones.

I've got back problems, which makes lifting 5-6 gallons of diesel that high quite problematic for me. So I bought an inexpensive 12v in-line fuel pump from NAPA and added fuel line to both sides. One line goes into the diesel can on the ground, the other goes into the tractor tank. The pump gets connected to 12v on the tractor. If you have a 12v receptacle, that makes it much simpler. Otherwise just put a couple alligator clips on the wires and clamp them to the battery posts.

If you don't want to get that fancy, I've got an old fashioned steel jerry can (Jeep style) with two flex spouts (original and spare) available - if you're interested. I've had it since the 80s, so it's clearly not one of the newer government-mandated versions.

The GALV will flake off into the diesel .

I built this much better rig with more features and funtions for less than a Fuel Caddy cost.
A fuel caddy is really just for transferring fuel and is not really intended for fuel storage.
4*Get a better set up by building your own rig.

I must say...The old "safety valves" were a lot worse then the newer "safety valves" (like the one in the picture at TSC)...

I have had very good luck with the No-spill cans for my gasoline needs. Personally, I think if the No Spill had a second fill cap they'd be about perfect. About the only time I have issues is re-seating the spout cap once in a while.


I have a 575 gallon tank with electric pump to deliver my diesel fuel. This allows me to properly additize/treat my fuel in bulk and also I double filter it before it hits the tank. Cans are notorious for collecting debris...
