06 F350 4x4 6.0 dsl flatbed hooked to our 28' flat + 6' dove dual wheel trailer with 6 old 5'x6' bales loaded with M9540 and grapple. Modified the brushgaurd to help protect and be a chain box. Also, JD 7330 is used to pull the trailer loaded with hay from the field.

I've got a MF 1642 on a traier rated for 12,000lbs. No problems. The truck I was using to haul was a 2001 Silverado 2500HD with a 8.2L/Allison trans. No problems there. Now I have a 2011 Silverado 2500HD with a 6.6L Duramax/Allison trans. Definitely no problem there :)

That's the lightest duty 12k trailer I've ever seen. Is it homemade of manufactured?

Any thoughts or comments here? Massey 1635 tlb on a 12,000# trailer. Figure weight of tractor and trailer in the 9500# range. Dad's truck is a 2007 2500 hd with the 6.0 gas engine, rated for 9900#. It towed pretty good, but there was no doubt that it was back there. Quite a bit different than towing 2 snowmobiles which is the max I had towed previously.

Looks good to me. Load looks secured properly and trailer looks balanced.

Not so heavy load.

Why do I keep seeing this? Does it make the truck "loaded" and is there a benefit to that?

I love seeing this! I think truckers just do it for fun...

Well I finally bought a dually, I will be more of a toy than anything else. It's a 1986 with a 460 gas, bought it from the original owner, the thing was never worked, never used as a truck. He kept all service records since he bought it new. I plan on building a welding bed for it and buying a dump trailer to pull behind it.

We went to a family reunion last weekend and I took a couple pictures.
Tow rig is a 2004 Ford Excursion, diesel, 4x4, and we put air bags on it and run 30-40psi in them when pulling the trailer.
Trailer is 31'.
Bumper to bumper it is 53 feet long.

On the highway we get 10mpg or a little less with the ac on and just over 10mpg with the ac off. The worse we ever got was just over 7mpg going up White pass with a head wind but it came back up to 9.5 going down the other side.

We tried it without the air bags and it did ok without them but it is much better with them. Out GMC 3500 does fine towing it without any and I am guessing if the Ex had been built on a 350 platform instead of the 250 platform it wouldn't need then.

Love the X! I sold mine about 3 years ago and just couldn't stand it. About 6 months ago I found an '04 with 48k on it and was a 1 owner. Since I don't tow much with my X, as long as it had the 6.8 liter I was happy as a clam. I really don't care if the people in a Prius look up at me and give my 'the eye'. If they cut in front of me and slam on the brakes, they better hope I'm watching for them or they will be deceased Prius owners.

I towed an 8000 pound generator from FL to IN with my 6.8 X and got about 13.2 running with traffic on the highway. I really don't think my old 5.9 Durango or 5.4 Tahoe would have done any better and they both are a LOT smaller. Better hang on to your X! They are really nice to have and getting hard to find without having a million miles on them.
