Your towing rigs and trailers

We tried it without the air bags and it did ok without them but it is much better with them. Out GMC 3500 does fine towing it without any and I am guessing if the Ex had been built on a 350 platform instead of the 250 platform it wouldn't need then.
Did you have the Weight Distribution hitch when you tried it without the air bags? I'm surprised you need the air bags even with a 3/4 ton suspension and WD hitch but I have heard those Excursion's are heavy in the rear and that looks like a pretty heavy trailer. Looks like it's setup real well now though!
I would love one of those Excursion's with a Cummins diesel. ;)

Love the X! I sold mine about 3 years ago and just couldn't stand it. About 6 months ago I found an '04 with 48k on it and was a 1 owner. Since I don't tow much with my X, as long as it had the 6.8 liter I was happy as a clam. I really don't care if the people in a Prius look up at me and give my 'the eye'. If they cut in front of me and slam on the brakes, they better hope I'm watching for them or they will be deceased Prius owners.

I towed an 8000 pound generator from FL to IN with my 6.8 X and got about 13.2 running with traffic on the highway. I really don't think my old 5.9 Durango or 5.4 Tahoe would have done any better and they both are a LOT smaller. Better hang on to your X! They are really nice to have and getting hard to find without having a million miles on them.

We love ours and are not planning to get rid of it. We had a black 2004 that was also diesel, 4x4, etc. and we only had ~89k on it. It got totaled however. :( (tweeked roof, bent frame) It took us a couple months to find this one. It had 98k or so when we found it and is not in quite the same condition as the one we had (it was still almost perfect) but we have it are are keeping it.

I am pretty sure how tall and long the trailer is is a big part of the mileage problem. We consitered an Ex with the v10 or a Sub with the 8.1 also but it is moms everyday rig also and there was not a big enough difference in price to give up the 4+mpg more we get with the diesel.

Yes we have a weight distribution hitch and always use it when we tow. (well, except for when we pull it out of the barn with the tractor:D) It is indead heavy in the back and the 44 gallons of fuel back there, partly behind the axel, doesn't help. We like it and how it works.:)

My dream Ex would be built on an 06 F-350 frame so it would have the newer front suspension and the one ton rear and then put a 5.9 CR cummins bumped up to about 400hp and 800 lb ft with a six speed allison transmission behind it.:D:thumbsup:

Tough to beat the 4x4 V6 Rangers. We ran a small farm with one when I was growing up. My dad did everything with that truck. My cousin used one on a 4000 acre farm for years before stepping up to a 1/2 ton Dodge in about 1997.

'91 F350 towing '97 MacLander 12K 18' trailer. '97 Daewoo DSL801 skid steer with Patu 575 clam loader, 6' Virnig grapple with 2" rock teeth and a standard 6' bucket. Any guesses on the gross trailer weight? I was thinking around 13.5K

They are real bullet proof little trucks, tried and true. The gray is barely broken in with a little over 450000km;)

After hauling my camper up and down the state last week, I drove back to the farm to pick up the tractor and haul it back to town, as we have some yard work to do. Boy, does it look tiny by comparison. Hardly felt it, either.

Nice rigs and trailers guys. I dont know how to post pics on here, so i will just tell you about it till I figure out how to post pics. I have a 2006 3500 Dodge Ram Diesel. For a trailer i have a 20+5 gooseneck that i use to pull my tractor with. The trailer is really too much for just the tractor, so im trying to sell it to my uncle. He uses it more than me.
