Jim we use the Folgers classic roast 2lb 1.9 oz. fairly close to your 33.9 oz. only get 270 cups out of the container. It isn't the cost per cup it is the doubling of price every couple of months. if any other comodity like diesel there would be one of those congressional investigations may be they get theirs free.

Ken, I understand what you mean about being alarmed over the price going up, but you have to admit that 3.5 cents per cup is a bargain even if it is about three times as expensive as tea (if you buy the gallon size tea bags). 48 of the gallon size are $9.28 at Sam's and doing the math shows that would be 1.2 cents per cup. Tea is still a great bargain, but it just doesn't do it for me in the morning.:( I love my coffee.:licking:

The reason I don't buy the 2 lb, 1.9 oz coffee at $11.80 is that it works out to 33 cents per oz. I buy the 48 oz (3 lb) container at $13.80 and that works out to 29 cents per oz. If the 2 lb 1.9 oz size was priced the same per oz, that would be $9.83 instead of $11.80. The 48 oz size is easily the best bargain since Sam's Club where I shop has both at the prices above. If the 48 oz size was prices per oz at the same price as the 33.9 oz, it would be $16.80 per can and I'd probably be complaining too. . . . but it still would a few pennies for coffee. Just think what Starbucks, McDonalds, or even the corner grocery/gas station makes on a pot of coffee. They love to sell it by the cup because they are cleaning up. I'd love to have the daily revenue from even a 7-Eleven store.

Jim I frequently drive a 30' cattle truck to help a dairy man haul Holstein cattle to/from cattle auctions. And when stopping at service stations will get a to-go cup of coffee. Some times it takes 40 miles of driving to get rid of what they brewed. Terrible stuff. Then next stop the coffee is excellant. prices are all over the range of free if fill up to $2.19 for a 20 oz. cup. I agree it is adictive, habit forming, must have something unhealthy in it, but sure is a lot better than tea I have tried to drink. ice cold with some lemon sitting on front porch about the only method .
I was invited into Starbucks in Conway Ark. by a elderly man to talk some business. Gave the waitress my order of plain black no additives. He ordered a coke. she told him to go next door and get a slug coin to put in the door way machine for his drink. The reason I don't know. but he offered to buy my coffee she told him the price and he took out his bill fold then looked at her, then at the sign overhead, had her repeat the cost. She gave me the drink and he went and got his coke. sitting at the table sipping my coffee he again asked . Why did she give you that coffee and wanted to charge me so much for it. Told him he was in a coffee shop that is how they make there living. he never figured it out.
Sure is a lot of different kinds of coffee drinkers but all seem to enjoy there coffee. ken

Of course after drinking coffee aboard ship on the mid-watch that has been in a 30 gallon coffee maker for over 10 hours, I guess anything would taste good.

 My BIL just left, he was visiting since he's here working on a guvment project. He retired USN and this morning at the coffee pot he was "doctoring " the H#@$ out of his 1st cup, milk and sugar. I was like "da%$ master Chief" Must be a different Navy now Jim:D

Bird,
That is almost our same experience with Cuisinart. Got one of the $100 plus models as a gift from Best Buy, went through 2 in the 1st 6 months. Also ended up back to the $30 job from Walmart and works good.

Simple. Community with chicory. If community is not available anything with chicory will usually do.

Where can you find it?

I have tried roasted dandelion root. Not bad!

I have been watching for sales, buying enough to get by for several months at a time. Starting to buy no name brands, but that is even higher then what I was paying just a couple years back for name brand. Keeps going the rate it is, I will be a X drinker of that also.

Reminds me of a CPO I worked with whose hobby was cake decorating. He had a fascination with sugar and put 6 lumps in every cup of coffee. We nicknamed him "The 6-lump Chump."

My experience as a CPO, when someone put too much sugar in their coffee, I sent them to medical... Most were discharged being dibetic.

I think the gov't doesn't care about the increase of coffee prices because they are trying to get the farmers to raise coffee in countries like Columbia instead of illicit crops and the only way to do this is to insure that the farmers make a good return on their investment. :confused2:

Perhaps our government should make the illicit crops licit.

Here in the midwest our Meijer stores have an "international" aisle. They have Dalmeier Produmo for sale there about $7/lb. It is one of the best German coffees you can get your hands on. it is slightly more expensive than the run of the mill cr$p that sells in the coffee aisle, but prior to finding it I had just about given up on drinking coffee.

That was one of the things I noticed right after landing in Detroit - price of ground coffee was DOUBLE the German price and absolute junk. Initially I used to have fairly frequent trips to Germany and would come back with an entire 20-25lb load of coffee, but rarely go anymore.
