2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Price Check

Rolling Farms,

I bought a 2011 2500HD Silverado Z71 Duramax back in November. It now has 8000 miles on it. It's my first diesel truck, and I really like it. I have owned Ford an GM trucks in the past, but my previous 3 were all GM 1500 models.

I do a little towing (8000# 23' RV), but mostly use it to haul "stuff" back and forth from my farm. I've been getting about 17mpg on the highway, driving at 70mph average, and about 15mpg in light city driving. The truck has been rock solid so far. I like the ride, and the transmission is like silk. I have plenty of torque and acceleration for the towing I do. The exhaust brake is really slick, as well as the integral trailer brake. I would definitely buy this truck again.

I've decided to hold of on a truck purchase for awhile for several reasons. 1) no one wants to deal, not Chevy, not Ford, not Dodge....no one. they're all $3-4k too high and this is after their "rebates"...which aren't that great to begin with. I told all of them to either come way up on my trade-in or shed a few thousand off the price, none of them bit on that so i walked. I just don't understand where folks are getting these great deals on new trucks lately. i read about them on different forums, but realistically i can't even come close to what they paid. 2) another problem seems to be that GM, Ford, and Dodge didn't build a whole lot of trucks in 2011. what the dealers have on their lots are either loaded up to the gills(which i refuse to pay for unless they deal on it) or are not set up to my liking. I guess this has alot to do with why the rebates and financing isn't all that great, they aren't overstocked like they were a few years ago. I guess i'm going to wait until December and see if they budge then and hopefully find one that's leftover to my liking. if not, I'll just save, save, save and order what I want next year.

I think the worst place to shop for a vehicle is in the state of South Carolina. all the dealers seem the same and when you shop around for price they're all way too high and no one wants to match or beat anyone elses price:mad: I don't mind the salesman making $500 or so on the sale but be danged if they're going to take me to the cleaners for 5-6k on the sale!

Thank you everyone for your help on this topic!

Come to the Roanoke, VA area. The lots here are loaded with trucks, especially Chevy. GM shut down truck production due to a 120 day stockpile, Ford's is about 70 days I believe.

RollingsFarms, I feel your pain. What you described is just my situation. I want a w/t just a little bit dressed up for a reasonable price and have never really found one on a lot just like I want. When something is close enough they just won't deal. I'm finding right now about $5,000 off msrp s about the 'going rate' on 2011 GM HD's.

Took my 1995 Chevrolet 1500 into a dealer yesterday for some routine service and inspection sticker and looked at a new 2500 crew cab LT and all I could get was about $5005 off. I want it but I ain't paying that much unless I have to. So far I don't have to.

Lots in Texas are loaded too. I travel a lot and frequently stop in at dealerships all over the state. The are all full. The salesmen that show up out in the lots when I'm tire kicking all say they are starving but GM won't give any rebates so they can deal. I think that's a load but it's their story and they ave been sticking to it.

I have read several stories about GM's truck inventory problem in recent days. Here are two examples:

what i find insulting is the extra $5 GM has included in the rebates. rebates in SC on 2500's are $3,005 and $4,005 on 1/2 tons. $5 extra? really??!! they must think that will sway my decision.lol i would be fine with a 1/2 ton IF i could get a decent gearing in one. 3.08's just ain't gonna cut it for me. the problem i'm finding is the one's that have the 3.42's in the half tons are the loaded up ones. so that has pushed me to looking at a gas 2500HD. i have a local dealer, who usually is higher then everyone else, working up some numbers and he swear's he can beat the deals i've been given so far by a good margin as well as give me more for my trade-in. we will see if that's true on Monday. he did offer me some extra discounts that no other dealership has bothered to mention to me(USAA $750 member discount for example).

I gave Ford one more chance today. they had a F-250 Super Crew 4x4 with the 6.2. Lariat model i think it was. the sticker price was $46,000 and the most they'd come off was to $42,000. i just can't do that, well i can but i won't pay that much for a gas truck.

I've looked at used but there just isn't anything out there for sale that is 1 or 2 years old, and if you find one it has 20,000 miles or more and they want about $1,000-$2,000 less then a brand NEW one. the truck market is just crazy right now with the way the economy is and gas prices. just doesn't make any sense at all.

Rolling Farm,

Wait it out a little bit..I'll bet this changes. At the end of '10 there were deals everywhere...May happen again. If you're not desperate, just sit back for a while.

That whole idiotic cash for clunkers thing inflated the used car market far longer than I thought it would. I got stupid money on trade for my '04 GMC Z71 SLE...$4K more than it was worth, that sealed the deal. Sat on the dealer lot for a week and was gone. Appears that 15K for an 04 with 100K was worth it to someone. They gave me $12.5 for it.

i think that's what i'm going to do. i still plan on meeting with the salesman that i mentioned earlier, on monday and unless he gives me a stupid deal, i will most likely walk away. i have 110,000 miles on my 04 Z71 and was only offered $10,000 for it. i laughed in their faces because i know how my truck has been maintained, there are no wear marks or rips in the seats, the underside of the truck is clean, never been smoked it, in great shape for a 7 year old truck basically. i would LOVE to find a 6.2 in a crew cab but those seem pretty hard to come by. the ironic thing is there seem to be lots of Denali's with the 6.2 out there but that's just too nice of a truck for me.

i'm basically looking for either a 1500 6.2 CC 4wd or a 2500 6.0 CC 4wd.

i would be fine with a 1/2 ton IF i could get a decent gearing in one. 3.08's just ain't gonna cut it for me.

Why?
Have you done the math?

Trans ratio gearing--4 speed----------6 speed
1st gear--------------3.06--------------4.03
2nd gear-------------1.63--------------2.36
3rd gear--------------1.00--------------1.53
4th gear---------------.70---------------1.15
5th gear-----------------------------------.85
6th gear-----------------------------------.67

Overall gear ratio - trans X rear=overall ratio

-------------------- 4 speed w/3.73-----------6 speed w/ 3.08
1st gear-----------------11.4-----------------------12.4
2nd gear-----------------6.1-------------------------7.26
3rd gear------------------3.7-------------------------4.7
4th gear------------------2.6-------------------------3.5
5th gear-----------------------------------------------2.6
6th gear-----------------------------------------------2.0

I guess it depends on what you want to do with the truck but it looks like 6 speed with 3.08 would be better than 4 speed with 3.73.
Hope my math is right and I didn't fat finger it to many times.;)

The 6 speed 3.08 actually looks similer to a 4 speed 4.10 after doing the math.
