I have heard of 1500's optioned just like yours, but have not been able to find any in my area to drive. Everything around here has the 5.3, and mostly the 3.08 rear. If you look around you can find a 3.42 rear in a 1500, but they are not common. Rated to tow 9600 in ext cab 4x4 configuration.

they are VERY hard to come by. in fact the set up i have also comes with the 3.42 rear end but the 3.73 gives you an extra 300 lbs of towing and makes the truck feel a bit quicker.

The GM dealers around here are advertising everyother commercial. Now they are offering no payments for 90 days plus all the rebates. Just saw it while having my Sunday coffee.

Hmmm...... I'll bet the loan still accrues interest for those 90 days without payments.

i don't know about your area but in the southeast they have rebates for credit union member, loyalty discount, supplier pricing(everyone can get this no need for some special number), some discount for me owning my own business(can't remember the name, but wanted to share it with you), and when all was said and done the salesman just somehow ended up knocking off $10k from the sticker. the best i could get any ford dealer to do was $4,500 and then my trade-in which the GM dealer was the only one who offered me $10k. everyone else offered me $8-9k.

I won't lie, i liked the Ford trucks a bit better but GM is way more aggressive in dealing right now.

oh that 90 day thing is with Ally. if you finance with them you get an extra $2k off or something like that and then you can refinance after the 90 days. i didn't want to do all that and just financed through my credit union at 3.74% for 72 and will pay it off early.

Thanks for the tip Chris. We got X plan pricing on the wifes 2011 Expedition through another family member. It saved us around 2k. The Expedition has been Great by the way and is averaging 16.5 MPG {computer calculated} in 60 percent city and 40 percent highway driving.

How do you figure the 2k savings? Off what? I got a pin for x-plan and priced a 2010 F250 last year but didn't think it was that great a deal. Trying to decide if I missed something and should go back to looking at the Fords under the x-plan.

I'm tired of all the gimmicks like that. Even saw where GM was offering free insurance somewhere. Trying to buy a truck for cash (and get a good deal) is more difficult than it should be.

i agree. nowdays they give you all the rebates and stuff if you finance then if you pay cash straight out. makes no sense to me.

Maybe somebody can explain the gimmick of the companies giving a thousand dollar discount if you finance with their in-house finance company like Ally for GM but Ford does the same thing? The dealers claim you can get the thousand discount and then pay it off or refi in 90 days. So what is the trick that makes this worthwhile to them?

I am sure it does. Simple fact is most people are not as smart as we are and think of things like that. They see "free" money for 90 days and a new truck to boot and they line up at the door. Guess who pays in the long run?

I have learned my lesson on this one. When I got out of college I had very little debt because I worked hard and my parents were able to help but I got my first place and needed some stuff. Local furniture store was offering no payments no interest for 12months. I jumped getting a 32" TV, big back then, and a couch, love seat, recliner, end tables, and coffee table. It was about $1800. Not the best stuff in the world but it was new and mine.

Anyway I was making good money at the time so I was paying $250 each month and planned to pay it off well before the 12 months. I then wanted to trade my truck and get a new truck. To my surprise I had a loan in my name for something like $6000. They had done the loan at like 18% plus had all types of late fees, finance charges, ect in it. Of course I was never going to pay these because I had it set up to pay off in about 8 months but it was still on my credit report. The next morning I marched down to the store then to the bank that did the credit for them and paid it off and would not leave until I had papers in my hand saying it was paid in full.

Valuable lesson for a young guy. No free lunch!

They ought to be able to do that after all the money they stole billions from the millions of people who trusted them enough to buy stock in GM (never to be repaid) and the billions in government money they won't ever have to pay back. As far as I'm concerned, the ONLY way I'd drive a new GM product is if GM came and dropped off a brand new loaded up 4X4 dually diesel and new Corvette in my driveway to make up from the money they stole from me. I have 3 60's era Chevy muscle cars that I'll keep but I literally would buy a Chinese import before I'd ever buy a new GM product. I just can't ever trust a company who stole so much from so many people. Even after stealing all that money, GM still has money problems. IMHO, if they have to come back to the gov't begging for money again, GM will go the way of Yugo.
