I am sure it does. Simple fact is most people are not as smart as we are and think of things like that. They see "free" money for 90 days and a new truck to boot and they line up at the door. Guess who pays in the long run?

I have learned my lesson on this one. When I got out of college I had very little debt because I worked hard and my parents were able to help but I got my first place and needed some stuff. Local furniture store was offering no payments no interest for 12months. I jumped getting a 32" TV, big back then, and a couch, love seat, recliner, end tables, and coffee table. It was about $1800. Not the best stuff in the world but it was new and mine.

Anyway I was making good money at the time so I was paying $250 each month and planned to pay it off well before the 12 months. I then wanted to trade my truck and get a new truck. To my surprise I had a loan in my name for something like $6000. They had done the loan at like 18% plus had all types of late fees, finance charges, ect in it. Of course I was never going to pay these because I had it set up to pay off in about 8 months but it was still on my credit report. The next morning I marched down to the store then to the bank that did the credit for them and paid it off and would not leave until I had papers in my hand saying it was paid in full.

Valuable lesson for a young guy. No free lunch!

Yep, if it sounds to go to be true, IT IS !!!!!! Now that I am older and have been around the block once or twice, I ALWAYS carefuly read the fine print. When I am done, I read it all again.

I owned a 2004 6.0 2500HD. I was happy with the towing. It just got terrible milage. Best tank empty 14.5, all highway cruise set a 72. I usually got around 9 or 10 with 12,000# GN horse trailer. I think the problem with the one you drove was the gears. Mine had 4.10s. That was the only way they came that year. A buddy of mine had an earlier model with 3.73s. It pulled terrible. Just fell on it's face when you put a load behind it.
Just so you know I traded my truck for an 09 F250 diesel. I guess that kinda proves no brand loyalty. The next one may even be a Ram, but you can bet it will be diesel. I don't think I will ever go back to a gasser. The torque for towing is well worth the money for me. Everyone has thier opinion though.

Maybe somebody can explain the gimmick of the companies giving a thousand dollar discount if you finance with their in-house finance company like Ally for GM but Ford does the same thing? The dealers claim you can get the thousand discount and then pay it off or refi in 90 days. So what is the trick that makes this worthwhile to them?

I recently bought a new F150 and wanted to pay for it outright. It was at a place that advertised a "No Haggle" price and indeed the price was lower than I had been able to negotiate with other dealers. When they brought out the paperwork for me to sign it was $1,000 more than what was on the windshield. I immediatly refused to sign. They became upset and explained that their advertised price included the $1,000 rebate for financing through Ford Credit. I argued, that if that was the case, that the windshield price should clearly state so. I cannot believe that I have to pay more when paying in cash than paying with credit. Rather than lower the price they added two options that totaled more than the thousand dollars retail. I'm sure that their price for the options were far less but I was happy.

Just curious, what were the options they added?

Trailer Brake Control (OEM) and SS/Chrome step rails. I couldn't believe the trailer brake control was $500.

For Ford, if it is as a option that is dealer installed it cost $500 but if ordered from the factory its $160 or so. Reason is they use a different master cylinder. So if you have a truck without the factory brake controller and you want to add it you must not only install the box in the dash, its plug and play, and replace the master cylinder. The master cylinder is a direct replacement and is really not a hard job, its just the parts and labor add up.

I have an 8:45 AM appt. tomorrow, my wifes Expedition is getting its first service. I plan on waiting on it, and I also plan to test drive the 3/4 ton Ford tomorrow while the Expedition is being serviced. I will post about the Ford tomorrow or Saturday.

I say this on all these threads but forget the 3/4 ton and go for a 1 ton SRW. They sell more 1 ton SRW trucks around here now days than 3/4 tons because guys have figured this out. GM was late to the game but 08 and later its been the case. Ford has been this way since about 97 or 99 and Dodge was close to follow.

Again, this is my local dealers.

In the Ford line-up its about $600 difference between a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton SRW. Also be aware there are nearly 15 different GVWR packages with Ford SRW trucks form 8,800# to 11,500# so while it may look like your buddies truck it can be way more or way less. I will only buy F-350 SRW 4x4's with 11,500# packages from now on. They ride the same and handle so much better with a load when compared to the lighter sprung trucks.

GM and Dodge are much more streamlined with the GVWR packages having only 1 or 2 options.

I have been using my father-in-laws truck while my 7.3powerstroke is in the shop. I been needing to pull my gooseneck he said put a hitch in his I:laughing: Its a 2001 6.0 heavy half ,crew cab ,auto with 350,000 miles he bought it new and he said still has same plugs and wirers the only thing he has done alt, fuel pump and battery. I put the hitch in it and hooked up the 24footer with the kubota4x4 with ldr and the 8 ft shredder and the truck never missed a lick pulling it.This coming from a ford owner,I would have to give it to the 6.0.

The 7.3diesel has antifreeze getting into the fuel system.(havent heard what the deal is yet).
