What is the optimum tire pressure for the standard PT-425 turf tires?

What would be the recommended tire pressure if the tires were 75% filled with a 50/50 % water - anti-freeze mix?

I would not think that filled tires would change the pressure you want but I do not know for sure.

I don't have turfs.

But, I run 10 PSI in the front and 8 PSI in the rear with my lug tires that are loaded with WW fluid.

Loaded tires make no difference in the PSI you run -- you're just compressing a smaller volume of air.

Thanks Kent, but why a difference in front and rear?

To handle the concentrated weight of picking things up with the lift arms.

Half the time my tires are out of air and I don't know it when mowing. The only time I know it is when I lift something with the FEL arms.

With that said, I run them at no more than 10psi. No need to go any higher. 10psi and I can fill the bucket to tipping point and do the PT pucker all day with little tire compression.

I believe tire pressure will vary based on the # of plies the tire has. Less plies, less air needed.

Weight caring capability increases with # of plies. Air pressure increases to accommodate the weight.

The below date is just a ref showing the plies and pressure relationship.

LT-Metric, LT-Flotation and LT-Numeric Light Truck Tires
plies---------------Pressure
4 B 35 psi
6 C 50 psi
8 D 65 psi
10 E 80 psi
12 F 95 psi

So tires from the same class will not necessarily have the same tire pressure, and some people might even have a mixed number of plies, for the tires on the same machine.

Air pressure will also change the circumference of the tire.

Man, I hate to disagree with you guys since I have a lot of respect for you both. When I ran 10 psi, I found the tires deformed enough to leak air around the rim. I now run 20 on the front and 10 on the back. I know this exceeds the rating of the turf tires, but when you fill the bucket the entire weight of the PT plus load can be on the front tires. I have new tires and rims now and this may not be necessary. Also I have some stop leak stuff from Gemblers which also helps. Now I have talked my self into dropping the pressure. I am out of town for a while, so I can´t try it.

I hope you are not disagreeing with me, as the air pressure is stamped on the tires for the weight factor. If the weight is 1000 lbs per tire, that means that four tires will support a machine, weighing 4000 lbs.

As I said earlier, if you increase the # of plies, more weight can be carried, and more air pressure is necessary to do that.

I've found that at anything over 10psi also produces quite the harsh ride on bumps.
