At dealer now. Truck was fine on 146 mile trip here. They drained/checked oil, refilled with synthetic, cleaned it up & covered my tow expenses etc. + gave me about $200 in replacement parts & cash to cover my hassle. I did not ask for nor expect the $200. They also are giving me extra 40K engine warranty thru dealer in writing & according to them Toyota knows about this through my call to Toyota Roadside Assistance so dealer warranty = Toyota warranty. Service manager showed me emails from his GM & Toyota RM on this that I didn't intend to start before talking to dealer.

Anyway I'm done for now & think truck will be as good as before. Hope so as it's been great.

Toyota normally takes good care of it's customers! Good luck.

Isn't the Tundra engine the one that suffers from sludging and poor oil flow anyway?

This is why Toyota is so love. They step up.

I haven't heard of a Tundra engine sludging, I did know , and read of some Camry engines, prior to 2000. My 2001 was exepted when i had it tested. I just used mobil 1 in it..We sold it at 160k.

Stubee, I am so glad they treated you right.I had a lot better luck with the dealers when I bought new products...I own a 2006, it has been flawless...

.....maybe it was the Tacoma. I'm not a Toyota fan, or at least not new ones. I always liked the old Land Cruiser with the straight 6 and solid axles.

I remember hearing about some sludging problems somewhere but I didn't pay a lot of attention.

Toyota has built great products for a long time. Yes, although it has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, they had some sludge issues, but basically is was a matter of absurdly long oil change interval times being pushed, imho.

My kids have had 4 or 5 different Toys over the years and have gotten 200K out of all of them with almost zero issues whatsoever.

You should be able to safely extend the change interval to 10K miles using synthetic oil. I have and I do spectroscopic analysis on my oil and it's still fine at 10K.
