Update: oil drain plug fell outta Tundra

You should be able to safely extend the change interval to 10K miles using synthetic oil. I have and I do spectroscopic analysis on my oil and it's still fine at 10K.

That's good to hear since I've gone to 10,000km. (6,200 mi.) change interval with synthetic in my '07 Corolla.

Off topic, but my son's everyday driver is a '99 Camry 4-cylinder with over 480,000 km. (just under 300,000 mi.) on it. He bought it from his workplace (it was a salesman's car) with 397,000 km. on it. Dino oil changed every 8,000km (5,000 mi.). He replaced the water pump and timing belt at 400,000 km. and just replaced all the wheel bearings. It works like a top...impressive in my book.

That is excellent news, glad they stepped up to the plate. You going to let the dealer do the changes from now one?? Sounds like they made right their wrong.

It applies to that Freightshaker in your signature picture as well, but you already know that.....

I don't want to start an oil debate, there is awy too many I ignore but I have to say that modern chemistry has made synthetic oils that outlast the old crude derivied stuff by a mile.

Great the dealer stepped up without being "forced". This is precisely why i love toyota.

Absolutely.

To err is human.

Our company bought a new 3406 Caterpillar and installed it at no charge plus paid the downtime because a mechanic left a chisel laying in the overhead and put the valve cover on. The owner found it about 200 miles from the garage.:)

Having worked for a variety of car dealer service departments (new car dealers, GM and foreign) in my previous life, this would not be uncommon where the dealer is reputable. And let's face it, consumers are too smart for what went on in the early '80's and before.

Dealers know that "Oh sh%&" stuff happens, and they are prepared for it. The quick change guys, not so much in my experience.

Dealers live and die by CSI ratings, and service is a big part of the equation..It's that important....Not just Toyota.

I agree CSAT is important... But in my experience Toyota is always ready to step up... Look no farther than the extended frame warranty that they certainly didnt have to offer.

As a case in point on the Big3's warranty and willingness to repair their errors..., My Ford had severe rust on the door bottoms while under warranty.. They had the door bottoms SANDBLASTED!!!! and repainted. What do you suppose 20lbs of sand would do to the grease and mechanism of a door with power windows

All four doors!

Their original answer was the noise would stop eventually and "it was normal".

It was he threat of court that had them disassemble and de-sand the doors. Plus we had to force them to write an agreement to cover the mechanisms in the event of future failure due to sand.

Absolute stupidity on their part. And thats not even talking about the other rust problems they wouldnt address even while under warranty (rusted factory chrome).

I would have to say that frames rotting out would have been a forced recall in the US...Ran in to less that that at Honda, and the Gov't wouldn't allow it to pass..That's a MASSIVE safety issue. Ford now has one with the late 90's to mid 2k F150's having the gas tanks falling out due to corrosion issues. Don't give Toyota too much credit there.

The facts are it wasn't a forced recall. And Toyota paid me 150%($12,400) of the excellent condition blue book value for my beat to ****, 212K hard miles 2002 tacoma with a 1/4" hole in the frame right next to the hanger.
They did step up and we haven't forgotten that.
