You should be able to safely extend the change interval to 10K miles using synthetic oil. I have and I do spectroscopic analysis on my oil and it's still fine at 10K.
That's good to hear since I've gone to 10,000km. (6,200 mi.) change interval with synthetic in my '07 Corolla.
Off topic, but my son's everyday driver is a '99 Camry 4-cylinder with over 480,000 km. (just under 300,000 mi.) on it. He bought it from his workplace (it was a salesman's car) with 397,000 km. on it. Dino oil changed every 8,000km (5,000 mi.). He replaced the water pump and timing belt at 400,000 km. and just replaced all the wheel bearings. It works like a top...impressive in my book.
