My 12" rankin auger sucks!!!

Hmmm, is the 3pt valve equivalent to the deck/3pt lowering speed control on my BX?

I know if I have it set to slow - the way I like it with the hog on - I have to keep my hand on the 3pt control for quite a while to get it all the way down.

That would keep the auger from getting anywhere once it had contacted the ground. Maybe even with a hand on the controls. Don't these things have a "float" position?

Not sayin', just askin'.

Z.

Trust me .. your hydraulic downforce kit won't help it in this case.

I cleaned the teeth even tried water to keep them clean FAIL

The water isn't to keep them clean, its to soften the clay. You pour a bunch on the ground in the area you want to drill a few hours before so it soaks in and softens the clay.

Next to rock its the toughest kind of stuff to sink and auger into. The auger can't work a knife edge like a shovel into the soil, its relying on brute force.

BTW if you have any rock, don't run your auger at pto speed, you're just asking to mangle the auger even though the shear pin is supposed to save it.

the ground in the video does not look very hard at all. I have rocky and decomposed granite soil here, and my post hole digger digs way faster then yours does. I added a hydraulic downforce kit to mine, and now its really fast. My auger has the twirly tip to it also.

I agree with very low rpm, you have a pengo auger, those teeth flipped one way are 40 degrees and flipped over will be 50 degrees. flip all teeth to 50 * and use low rpm....I know I had the same issue. The soil will act as a plate between the outter edge of the tip the the inside of the inner tooth. this soil will pack in this area instead of funneling out the the teeth.
I local machine shop built a new tip and harded it to. made a huge difference. FYI I use a hyd loader mount PD, the 12" and 15" augers were tough getting down 3 and 4' deep. The 9" auger was no problem that deep. My experiance with my dirt.

You notice this one has a larger OD at the top next to the inner teeth.
