Here is the video for anyone who wanted to see it.

Raw Video: Man Tries to Stop Car With His Feet - YouTube

OP here, thank you for sharing the video, I didn't know it was filmed from a police car. What baffles me is, the officers must have realized he didn't have any brakes, so why didn't they pull their car in front of him and then slow a little so his truck tapped their bumper, and use their car to stop him?

For the insurance on my 1994 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4, I pay $68 registration fee and $478 insurance for a total cost of $544 and that is after an insurance discount of $120 for no claims and good driving record. That's a lot of money for a truck that will be 18 years old come December..the month it was built in 1993.

That's about 1/2 of what I pay in B.C. and we can't get multi-vehicle discounts either. A full year on my Harley costs about $1500.00 and those rates don't include collision coverage. I think my 95 Volvo is about $1000.00 I'm 63, retired, and never caused an accident outside a parking lot.

For those who didn't get a chance to read the full story, the reason the judge called him a moron was that after the brakes failed, he tried to drive the truck. He apparently had it stopped a couple of times and then decided to give it another try. Sometimes I'm embarrassed to be from Michigan.

Relative to comments on insurance cost, with two teenage drivers, I'm shocked at the price I pay for insurance also. However, if you look at the cost of even minor repairs and the number of uninsured and unlicensed drivers out there, it doesn't seem so outrageous. Like many people, I'm with a mutual insurance company which means it's really a co-op - there are no "owners" or "shareholders" other than the policy holders. All the premiums go to paying claims and paying salaries of the people who work there.

What baffles me about your post is how they manage to get lawyers to represent them, of the ones being cited for DWI, etc. don't have money to pay for insurance or fines, how do they have any money to pay the lawyers? Seems to me if the lawyers were getting screwed over, they would stop representing the drunks.

Part of the legal system "If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you" One of the high cost parts of county courts is paying the 'indigent lawyer' fees.

Odd part of the dirt bag drivers. They KNOW they will be caught yet drive like a bunch of morons. That is why there is such a high percentage of stops resulting in 'no license or insurance'. I is almost like they are deliberately calling attention to themselves.

I was county dispatch/jailer for 15 years. More than once on DUI or DWLS/R charges they would be bonded out in the middleof the night drive a mile or two and swap back into the drivers seat. I used to ask the town cops to keep an eye on the 'bond outs' when they were leaving the jail just for such tricks. Fastest turnaround was about 10 minutes from leaving the jail to coming back into the salley port.

Thanks for your informed input. The laws should be changed so that if someone is jailed for the same reason the third time, they are mandated to pay for their own attorney. Appoint them a free lawyer the first two times, then let them pay for their own on the third. Seems fair to me.

The community newspaper here used to print court news, and it never failed to amaze me how many of the cases that were published noted the defendants were on court for DWLS/R or DUI...had I taken the time I probably could have saved the court news and spotted the same names again on the future.

My next door neighbor is a cycle patrolman in a college town, he says sometimes he hates booking drunk drivers because it takes so little time for them to walk out of jail.

Another oddity about dirt bag drivers.

Washingtn state (mine) while I was dispatcher passed a new law that anyone conviced for DWLS/R (driving while license suspended or revoked) got a new distinctive lic plate that told LEOs at a glance that the driver might be dirty. We called it a "scarlet letter plate". It was granted as a prima facia reason for a stop. Cops had a field day for about it year before the law was repealed.

Then there was the "automatic tow" for getting stopped DUI/DWLR/S. No more swapping drivers or leaving the car on the side of the road. Another field day for the tow companies...they thought. Their lots soon filled up with unclaimed junker cars that weren't worth the tow/impound fees even as scrap. Their protests soon resulted in the cops ignoring it. 20 years later now and I don't know if it is still on the books.

My husband was pulled over recently by an armed response vehicle and told that the automate number plate recognition system had flagged him up as uninsured. In the UK police aren't routinely armed but were apparently very nice. Len knew he was insured but when the police contacted the insurance company their computer was down so his insurance couldn't be verified. His vehicle was impounded, he was told he would get a 200 pound fine, 6 points on his license (9 point gets a driving ban) and it would cost 150 pounds to get his vehicle back after he insured it. If not collected in 2 weeks it would be crushed.
Once a neighbour had driven him home he found his insurance certificate and 2 numbers had been reversed. The police told him he would be liable if he had given the insurance company the wrong information. The insurance company went back to the tape of the conversation he had with them when he renewed his insurance and it was their fault. He paid the 150 , the police told him to frame their paperwork as a momento, and after several phonecalls the insurance company paid the 150 plus 50 for the day's work my poor husband had.
Moral, check your documents twice as they come through the post.
