My dealer keeps trying to add a set of Woods pallet forks to my order.

I keep scratching them off the list, partially because I got the grapple, and partially because I'm not sure I will use them enough, and I was planning to find them used somewhere, someday. Originally I was going to buy Pallet forks as a cheap alternative to a grapple.

So. Other than moving my attachments around, or moving lumber I am building something with, or ???, what the heck will I be using pallet forks for (keeping in mind I have a grapple)?

PS - Bonus Question - Are the Woods Pallet Forks as good as he is telling me they are?

Just curious...
Thanks in advance,
David

David they are pretty usefull, I don't know anything about the Woods branded ones but Woods is a good name generally. I use mine to move all sorts of stuff, and you get in the habit of "palletizing" things to move them. They work pretty well to move brush and logs, but as you have pointed out you have a grapple, which is more than likely quite a bit better. I dont have a grapple (maybe someday) so I use the forks. But if you dont need them now you can always buy them later if you change your mind. You have the SSQA, and you can just order a set. Course they are going to come on a pallet. and you wont have anything to unload them with:D Hey hope you and yours have weathered the storm all OK right?

I buy shavings and pine pellets for the stalls on pallets. TSC gives a 5% discount for a pallet load (45 bags) of shavings. The pellets come 50 bags to a pallet. I move them from the trailer to the stables where I stack them in an empty stall. TSC gives a discount for 20 bags of feed. They stack them and wrap them on a pallet, again I just move them to the barn.

I also buy pipe fence in bundles of 37 10' sticks. Easy to pick them up and place them where the fence is being built. Its also nice to be able to unload things off the delivery truck that come on pallets.

With a set of pallet forks, yu can have freight delivered to your home without the hassle of finding, much less paying for, delivery to a shipping dock somewhere. They can save you serious coin if you order furniture, engines, or implements.

Do you need to move pallets or think you will much? If so, then sure, get them. If not, then wait and see. Forks are one of the easier attachments to find used.

Like I said in your other thread, I started with Forks based on a similar dealer recommendation. They can pick up brush, but are really not optimal for it. I ended up having to hand pile stuff on or it would just fall off the sides. Once I got the grapple, I almost never remove it. I have used the forks one time since then, but it was very helpful as it was moving/lifting partial pallets of roofing up to make that whole task easier. But I probably won't use them again for a good long stretch. No pallets to cart around or unload...

If you have a quick attach... you need pallet forks. They are on my tractor all the time. They are the most useful loader attachment in my opinion. They even work great at picking giant brush piles up!

So... get them!!!! MDS makes good forks. Not sure about Woods.

You won't regret having them... best money you can spend.

James,

The wife and my 3 daughters camped out in the basement last night.

As far as I can see out the windows, things look ok, I'm going to go take a hike up the hill to the gate and check things out.

I need to go check my rentals also later today. One of them is vacant for a couple more weeks, the other the tenants have not called so should be ok.

Earthquakes & Hurricanes in DC. I wonder what's next Locusts? :D

There have been several threads on uses of forks. I've just received a suggestion for using them to remove small trees. I purchased mine to place a standby generator and have continued to find new uses. I your budget allows and the dealer will give you a good price, I'd go for it.

I don't have them, but was wondering if anyone has used them to move round bales. If they work for round bales you could save the money from a spear and have a dual purpose implement.

Use them 10 times more than I ever thought. Used them to lift a small garden shed to relevel it, move large rocks and build a retaining wall, put a palet with a flat bottom and railing around it on and used it as a man lift to wire my new shop, lifted a larger 150lbs heater to the ceiling to mount it in the shop, lifting larger items from the truck, put at 30 foot flag pole between the forks to guild it up and drop it in a hole for a flag pole, lift a safe on to a porch and a dolly, move brush, load logs, lift my big compressor to put rubber pads under it, tipped a brush hog up and lean it on a tree to sharpen the blades, tear out old outdoor porch steps and drop them in the dump trailer, and a bunch of other things. I found them to be worth every dollar. Also there ares tons of aftermarket ones out there that are just as good.
Good luck
