Crash, how do those Antelope Jacks taste? Looks like enuff meat on them for a huge pot of stew!
Rick

Those guys aren't fit to eat. Lots of them have tumors and other sicknesses. Not to mention tough and stringy. Little Cotton Tails are good if cooked right. But not much meat.

Doves, Quail & cotton tails, in my opinion are a waste of time when it comes to eating them. Good taste, just 2 much work for 2 little meat.

We would not have made much headway when just married if it had not been for the Squirrels and cottontails. Smaller when fried, more filling when in dumplings..

There are @14,000 on the island with all but about a thousand living in the town of Kodiak in the ne corner. Where did your friend get his bear? I wish we had black bear on the island too, they r pretty tasty:licking: have to settle for our deer instead I guess.
Rick

I think he said on the South side of the Island, but honestly not sure. I know his hunt was over in like 2 hrs! He said when he walked up to the Grizzly, it was like a religious experience to be next to something that big and impressive.

I can't even remember the score , but it made SCI they said even after "shrinkage".

We have big meaty showshoe hares on the island but they r pretty tough, usually quarter them into a crock pot and let them cook all day, it tenderizes them right up. It has been a long time since I have eaten dove or quail, just got to get a bunch of them! A lot more fun and a lot less work shootin those lil critters instead of the big ones!

White Wings are a pain in the butt. But that is the #1 Dove for hunters. 1.5 Bites per bird. Big fat Quail about 2 maybe 3 bites. Shoot, clean, cut up and save the good parts about 3 or 4 bites.

I have 30 to 50 quail come in every day, Could get your limit (10) in 1 shot most days. Think its the same for doves. Unlimited on Turtle Doves, considered a pest.

Never seen a Snow Shoe, no real snow in this part of the world.

The only upland game bird we have here is ptarmigan(like a grouse) a couple of breasts is a meal for one. If you take n brine n smoke a BUNCH of the legs you have a tasty snack.
