It's the tech manual, the service manual that the mechanics use at the JD dealership. Not the owners manual.

No problem, it's in section 40, pages 10-4, 10-5, 10-6, and 10-7. Do you have a test meter? You may need to test each wire and possibly run new ones. Have you tried to pull start it to make sure the motor is free?

Not yet, me & my dad are gona use his dually here when he gets a chance. Last time we went we were going to, but the chains I thought were in the barn werent there.

I dont know a whole lot, but the basics. My.dads the guy whos pretty into this stuff.

I think from what kshunter stated his 2040 is above SN 349999 because he stated his tractor had an electrical speed/hr meter therefore the wiring will be different than what's in the TM you're referring to. Correct TM for later model 2040 is TM1221

Yes, a rpm gauge, fuel gauge, oil temp or psi, and a few other things I think.

Ah that would explain the extra wires. My TM4300 is from 1977, it has both hydraulic systems but only one electrical section.
