Buying Landini Globus 75

Also sold as Iseki TR767. Possibly year 2001 model.

I'm all set to buy a used Landini Globus Sherpa 75. ~$US17,000 + sales tax (I get the tax refunded)
4995 hrs on the clock, original 75hp engine has been replaced with a used Perkins 80 hp engine at about 4500 hrs

Hydraulic pump replaced at about 4400 hrs (it's suspected that incorrect installation of the hydraulic pump caused crankshaft failure in the 75 hp engine)

Tractor has been used for mowing most of it's life. Last owner sold it because his new mower was too heavy and was making the steering too light.
Only two owners from new.

Overall it looks to be in reasonable condition. No sign of abuse. No sign of rust.
Factory fit cab.

Questions :
Are there any common problems in these that I should look for ?

It comes with a "drive home warranty"
I got a $2000 discount, so agreed that my only warranty would be a drive home warranty.
The dealer is 80km from my home, so I'll be driving it home. If it blows up before I get home it's the dealers job to fix it at his cost.
4 or so hours at near full throttle should be a good test for it. If it's going to break then it's probably going to be on this trip.

Remember, I'm in New Zealand. Our economy hasn't gone down the toilet like Europe & USA. So tractor pricing is still strong. I shopped for 5 months on this deal. Nearest I could get was an Iseki 550 2WD cab for $1000 less. The Landini has 15 HP more and 4WD.

I need to replace the orchard wheels/tyres with ags. By any chance does anyone know if the wheel stud pattern is the same as a more common tractor ?

I respect your choice. Congrats.

But the argument of last owner, that he used an attachment which makes steering too light, doesn't sound persuasive. He could simply put the weights at the front to balance a machine.
On the other hand, he could compare the weight of an attachment with a tractor's capability to lift it before the attachment purchase. I'm sure he could obtain the mower, which fits his tractor's specs in the best way.

BTW, if the tractor pricing is strong in NZ, you could choose it from the country, where it's weak.
So did I while obtaining my machine when the rate of $/EUR was beneficial to me. It's just curious to know, couldn't you think about it?

And again, I'm not criticizing your choice but only discussing.

PS: just one note - won't you have difficulties to order parts if the original engine has been replaced by non-original one with similar hours?

You're right. I did wonder that.
New Zealand is an island, for me to buy a cheap tractor from the nearest other country is Australia. I'd need to add another $5000 to the cost for shipping. It's not like the US where I can truck a tractor for $1 per mile.

Regarding the engine, the Landini is sold with a Perkins engine and it's been replaced with a Perkins engine, so I'm satisfied that parts won't be a problem.

I've done some more research and it looks like I bought it quite cheap compared to the exact same models being offered on TradeMe (our equivalent to Craig's List or eBay). The dealer I bought from has no website and doesn't advertise or list anywhere online. I suspect I picked up a bargain (as long as it's not a lemon).

I recently bought a Lely Optimo 240 disc mower from a similar dealer (no advertising, no online listings) for $900, compared to at least $4000 on the popular web sites.

Difficult to agree with shipping cost $US5000 between Australia and New Zealand. The price I've paid for small container from Houston, US to Lithuania was $US2500.

In your first comment you've written the 75 hp engine was replaced by 80 hp engine. I understand that as non-original replacement, even if both are Perkins. When you search for a part in the catalogue, it asks for engine type and production number. If you have it incorrect (which doesn't fit your concrete tractor), no part you could select. But, if you have good infrastructure of Perkins parts supply and professionals you can rely on in your country, than you'll have no problems.

Replacement engine is Perkins 5633/2200 AP81012 U596613K
UK built in 2003. 4 litre producing 69 HP. Non-turbo.
I haven't worked out what the 5633/2200 numbers refer to.

That's kiwi dollars which is about $US4000 and I've estimated a thousand dollars or so for steam cleaning etc. We have quite tough regulations about importing used farm machinery.

Drove it to my mechanic for a 1000 hr service

He called to tell me rear housing where 3pt attaches was flogged out, front hubs worn out and the icing on the cake there was a large crack in the engine block gummed up with filler.

Seller has agreed to full refund, it's going back tomorrow.

I'm sorry. Good idea is to find out the issues just in time. Yes, get all possible from the seller. Buying a second hand machine is always a risk. I have experienced that as well. Good luck.

Got my money back on the Landini in full. Spent a little more and bought a clean, original looking Massey Ferguson 362 with cab & premium locally made loader, all for about $US13,600.

I'm also glad to hear you have found the way to solve an issue. Congratulations!

Meanwhile I have a stupid tech incident with my M9000. This spring I've noticed the turbocharger is blowing engine oil via intake hoses through an intercooler. Ok, I said, old tractor (2003), old engine ... well, I'll replace a turbo (engine oil, filter too) and that'll be it. And I did it.
I don't know, what could get into my head to check new turbocharger's axle whether it is clicking or not after just 30 hours of hard work. And, to my horror, it was clicking in the same way like the faulty one (impeller touches the casing)! After 30 hours only ...!!!
The decision was made that faulty is an engine, but not a turbocharger. So I agreed to overhaul an engine. And to my surprise (yesterday) - not much worn-out parts were found inside, which could affect the turbocharger's failure.
So right now I'm on the crossroad... Knowing that the turbo's failure is always lead by a certain reason, I can't find the reason. That's the worst thing I've ever had with a tractor. Sinister feeling ... :mur:

But you know, there's nothing to blame ... Used machine, anything may happen at anytime.
