Thanks for the reply. I just got two new blades from the industrial supply. Two different sources, though I don't know either, just that the packaging was different. I'll try the higher speed when I change blades again.

My Enco has three speed settings. I have it in the middle. What's the general rule on how fast to run it?

I have my Grizzly set in the middle too. If I ever cut a lot of aluminum, I'll speed it up. If I ever cut tough stuff (e.g. stainless steel), I'll slow it down.

Go find a used one. Here's one on ebay, commercial saw, american made, built for a lifetime.

Horizontal Bandsaw

A cheap alternative is to buy a portaband and a fixed base. I'm always amazed at how often I grab for the portaband to cut something quickly. I also have a Dewalt abrasive wheel saw. The Dewalt seems primitive in comparison to the portaband.

But for true production quality work, a horizontal bandsaw has no equal.

G0622 4" x 6" Metal-Cutting Bandsaw
Buy Craftex Metal Cutting Bandsaw - B013N from Busy Bee Toools

Grizzly and Craftex, manufactured under the brand names of two different companies owned by two brothers, a lot of similarities between the two. Not a high end tool by any means but for my purpose I suspect the Craftex will work quite well.

There is a difference between those two saws. The Grizz is 3/4 "chinese" horsepower while the BB is 1/3.

If your after the Grizzly, they now ship to canada, which is good.

I think that PA has a 3/4 bandsaw they bring in on special once and a while.

A bandsaw is on my list since i lost out on an old Johnson at government auction. It sold for $100 :mur:

If it's close its a bargain. Shipping will eat you up.

Isnt that a Carolina rebadge?

I wouldnt touch a Carolina / Ramco with a 10' pole. I think that Carolina is out of business now as well.

A cheap ChiCom saw with the common upgrades would be better.

Somehow the Chi-Coms so seem so awful Com these days. They look a lot more to me like China Inc.

That Jet saw is the same as my Grizzly. It just has a nicer stand and a few other niceties the Grizzly doesn't have.

Same here, the only difference I can see is the drip tray, and the storage door in the stand. By the way here is what I do to clean up the chips or metal saw dust. I put a small yet powerful magnet inside a small ziplock bag then put that bag inside of a larger ziplock bag, that is big enough to get your whole hand into. and and then put the bags in the path of the chips under the blade. All the chips are attracted to the bag. When you get enough, take the whole mess over to a trash can, and reach in and pull out the inside bag containing the magnet while holding the outside bag, and all the chips fall into the can neatly.

James:

When I saw Jet in person, I noticed the hand-wheels were metal, and that there were miter stops for the common cutting angles.

Maybe newer Grizzly's have those now too as I bought mine shortly after Grizzly started offering them before anyone else did.

Regardless, it's a good little saw with mitering capabilities at an affordable price.
