I am not familiar with Century's quality on this weapon, but I carried the same thing for 2 years while in the Engineering Corps in South Africa and is is basically an "improved" AK74 with more consistent fit and finish and a bit better accuracy. The folding stock is well designed and it has good sling swivels built in. I carried mine for over 1800 miles of mine detection, along with a couple of rifle grenades and 200 rounds of ammo and it kept me alive.... It has good flip up night sights, but they have an "expiration date", so wouldn't know what to expect in terms of life..

This is somewhat off subject, but any way:

I would be curious about the quality of this one as well. I've got a Century weapon (Cetme) that ended up having to have the barrel repressed to correct the bolt gap problem. It's a good running rifle now, but I repeatedly read horror stories about some of the things that the "monkeys with grinders" at Century turn out. On the other hand, most of the time, you only hear the bad and very few people post online when they get a good one and have no problems. I've also heard/read that Century's quality has improved and if you are purchasing it "new", you should be able to send it to them for repair/replacement under warranty.

Good luck and take care.

This is incorrect.

Birdshot and trap loads are for birds and clays, and not home defense. Birdshot and similar loads lack sufficient penetration to stop a determined threat. Moreover, an assailant wearing a heavy jacket will suffer at worst only superficial penetration of the pellets.

Wrooster

True in theory. In fact, set up a 2x6 some time and let fly at it with a load of bird shot from 10'. Before the pattern starts to expand, the shot and wad act like a solid slug. Sometimes theory gets trumped by experimental results.

I think a lot at Century depends on what they have to replace. Unless I am mistaken these are based on IMI (Israeli) rifles, and Century may just be replacing compliance parts (trigger, sear, safety etc). They may be importing them "ready to go" from IMI and acting as broker. I do know that the bolt on these rifles is a lot more robust than the one on an AR15 and the camming action is due to a groove in the bolt carrier, which is also a very robust steel part. No stampings on this gun other than the magazine release and safety lever on the right hand side.

And it won't go through the drywall, and kill grandma in her bed. . .:D

Another choice instead of a gun is a well trained dog. He'll keep your wife and kids safe when you're not home. And when you are, unlike a gun, he'll keep your feet warm at night:laughing:

scrATCH MICHIGAN OFF PLACES TO LIVE!

Yeppers....

But there are game laws that can bite you in FLA, NC and I would think most/all states.

If you go for a walk at night with a firearm and a flashlight, in a area with deer, you are poaching according to the law. The firearms, flash light, and deer in the area are Prima Facie of the violation. You can tell the judge you were not poaching but just walking to the mail box.

Now the case law will certainly impact if that is enough for an arrest or citation but that is/was the law in FLA and in NC.

Yes, I do walk down my road. At night, with a firearm, and, sometimes a flashlight, to go the 1/4 of a mile to get the mail.

The only problem with a dog is the intruder may not hesitate to kill a beloved family pet...that and although most dogs are protective of their turf, that doesn't mean they'd be good guard dogs (unless well trained as you wrote).
However, it's quite likely they'd alert you to an intruder regardless of how well thy're trained.

i know htere are specific laws about carrying a gun, during hunting season, in an area designated to hunt, without a license.. but otherwise.. carrying a concealed weapon, with a permit.. it fairly lawfull with only a handfull of exceptions.. you can even carry in most national and state parks / preserves with a cwp.

you'd have to really t-off a LEO to get him to try to find some reason to search you while walking, in a place that might have deer. game.. etc. ie.. you'd have to be making a nuisance of yourself just to be approached and searched. remember.. the 4th amendment??

It is not about hunting season. It is all about having a weapon, a flashlight and deer. :D

In NC it is recommended to tell an officer that you are carrying concealed if you are talking to said officer.

If an officer pulled you over and you were carrying, is there a flashlight in the vehicle? Are deer around?

If an officer arrested/cited someone based just on what I said, then I think they made a mistake. But my point is the statue, the last time I read it, only lists three elements, firearm, deer, light producing device. The law is full of some pretty dumb or contradictory statutes.

It used to be in FLA law, and I doubt it has been changed, you could carry a weapon if you were fishing, hunting, and either camping or hiking. Forgot which of the two. On the other hand, there are laws saying you cannot have a weapon in management areas. Which law is in effect? They are mutually exclusive. I would prefer to avoid being the test case.

I am no longer familiar with FLA CCW law but I would very carefully read if the CCW law allows carry in management areas. In the past, those areas were firearm no goes out of season. In season you had better have a permit and a license. Hunting, especially on public lands, has gotten very complicated.

Thankfully the W/Oes I knew would use a good bit of discretion and common sense with these laws. As do most other officers.

The issues I was talking about are broad daylight on your own property. Can't carry a rifle for coyotes, in fact can't hunt coyotes unless in possession of a valid deer hunting license. And can't open carry a pistol registered in your name without a CPL. MI has an exemption for shining deer while carrying under a CPL. No CPL, no shining or no weapons. There are cities like Grand Rapids where the chief of Police is not in agreement with private firearms ownership and obtaining a CPL is a difficult business, despite Michigans "Shall issue" law. As I said, in Jackson County it takes 4 months to jump through all the hoops. But I still think it was worth it...
