Snow Largest snowblower for a BX

Jason; Seems like the only Shulte dealers anywhere are also John Deere dealers, perhaps only people who buy jd are willing to spring for the big bucks for a Shulte. Because of the better design of this blower and depending on your snow load of course I'd say that you probably could get away with it on a Bx.

The only thing that I wish Shulte would do with the Bx series of blower would be to put in a 7" or 8" top auger but thats an easy mod to do. Two bearings an auger shaft a weld on sprocket and a longer chain ,one days work and it's done. Mind you if indeed I do order one this winter I think that I will have the top auger installed by Shulte if for no other reason than that I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Any idea how much a premium Shulte charges over say a Buhler?

I know your set on Shulte, but since you mentioned 2 auger units, have you looked at the Lorenz models? They have 2 augers, but im not crazy on the style of auger flighting they use. And they really dont appear to throw the snow very far.

EDIT: I just found a Shulte BX62 Rear mount. $4899... Eek. That REALLY is a premium over the Woods and Puma's that sell for 2500. Unless the price on Northern is way out of whack, i dont see the value there (to me at least) http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...6304-largest-snowblower-bx-2.html#post2592750

Well Jason the wife payed $1600. for the Buler 500 and the price for the Shulte basic three point hitch mounted unit is $5,612.00 so you figure it out. Like I have said the full package Shulte costs as much as a Bx tractor.

As for the Lorenz I have never sen one except for pictures, I also don't really like the design with the exception of the two augers.

I used to have a Allis 10 hp garden tractor with a front mount belt driven single stage blower on it, it would move a huge amount of snow. If the blower had been a two stage that is to say with a fan the design would have been flawless. It was built much like a Honda walk behind I don't know why companies who make blowers can't simply look at these walk behind blowers and build theirs the same, just BIGGER. Design is the key, not weight.

Your correct, I did say I wouldn't go over a 50" blower but what I meant is that I wouldn't go over 50" with a conventional blower. The Shulte is Not a conventional blower. Most people wouldn't go for the Front mount Shulte simply because of cost as the full package would cost almost as much a Bx itself, but as I said I can use at least four implements with that one power pack and with my property being fully exposed to the north and a 1/2 mile long gravel driveway I need all of the blast that I can get.
Now the Shulte blower is not for everyone, the reason being cost but they will outperform any blower that I have seen.

The parasitic loss of the hydraulic system might change your thoughts!

I dont know why either .

The videos ive seen online of all the BX mounted blowers regardless of brand, (although some are better than others) are a little discouraging.

My 928 honda, with 9 measly horsepower, throws snow about 30'+ without breaking a sweat, yet a BX with 18hp (pto), 23 (eng) cant seem to throw half that. They both have about the same hp/inch. Its all in the efficiency of the design.

Maybe the rear mount blowers don't do well but my BX2750D does excellent. Throws snow further than my Honda walk behind and has never clogged up. Even heavy wet snow doesn't really bother it.

I run a 60" Farm King (Buhler) on the back of my BX2350. I have to say that I wouldn't want anything smaller due to the ease with which the front tires will run over the fresh snow when turning while going in reverse. For most snowfalls up to maybe 10", I can go full speed in low range and the blower/engine can keep right up. Anything more and I just slow down some. I've put it directly into snowdrifts that completely filled the intake (60"x24") and as long as I just creep it along it will blow a nice path.

Our driveway is about 1,200' long and includes a section with a 15% grade. For those reasons, I use chains all around and keep the bucket full of sand for better steering traction.

I'vebeen running a 48" Loftness blower for 6yrs now behind my BX1500 with 6" of snow no problem. 2' then snow goes over top and BX starts to lug in low range. I am really satisfied with my loftness and would buy another if need be. I would feel comfortable putting a 60" on a 23 hp given that your avg snow fall is 6"-8". when it get deep just drop speed

I'm running a Lucknow L48 on my BX25. This will be the second full winter - used it yesterday. Very satisfied with both.

Cheers Dave

I managed to find a E60 Econor with full hydraulics. However it might already be sold. Ill find out more next week but before i go any further, has anyone ran an E60 on the back of a BX?

Ive seen 60 farmkings mentioned, but the farmking is 470lbs,about the same as the Factory Kubota b2789 (51"), where the Econor minus the hydraulics is 506lbs. Add 10-20lbs for the hydraulics and your ~525lbs. I wonder if that will cause issues by making the front end too light?

When it comes to a decision, ive narrowed my choices down to just three brands (from the 11 or so i started with).

Basically it was down to fit and finish, metal thickness, skid shoes and most importantly chute rotation system.

I looked at and tried the chutes on the woods, kubota, agrotrend, pronovost, Normand (econor) and frontier. Woods and agrotrend chute rotation was very crude and stiff. That eliminated them from the competition.

THe kubota (RAD) was well made with a good rotation system, but lacked any bearings. It also had no skid shoes.

Pronovost (lynx and puma) had a good rotation system with hdpe inserts on the bearing area which made for an easy rotation.

Econor had both the HDPE inserts and ball bearings on the rotation as well. This was the best system ive seen. It also had skid shoes (i have a gravel drive) and the construction was very heavy. Its the winner by far. If the weight will work, the units not sold and hooking up aux hydraulics wont break the bank, ill likely go with the Econor
