I ALMOST flipped my 4240 last summer, if I hadn't instinctively dropped the FEL I would have had a big problem (where it happened quite likely would have impaled me on a fence post when it rolled). My prior tractor could never lift enough weight with the FEL to make it feel unsteady (of course it had loaded tires). Now that my tires in my 4240 are recently loaded and moved to the widest position I think it will be much more stable.

WRT to hydrolocking your engine. If you pull the injectors or even mostly unscrew them (to keep crap out of the cylinder head) you should be able to easily turn the engine over by hand or with a wrench on the front pulley--you will have no compression so there will be little resistance. You'll know right away if you have a problem because engine oil will squirt out the injector holes under pressure.

My old sailboat hydrolocked twice :( :( when siphon breaks failed in the plumbing--sailboats have their engines below the waterline so it's easy to flood them if a $3 part stops working correctly. This was a time-honored Perkins 4-107 50HP diesel engine. I loosened the injectors and hit the starter. Talk about a mess--seawater squirted all over the place from the cylinder heads. Had to change my engine oil and filters about 11 times to make sure everything was copacetic but the engine ran fine.

BTW the way I found out it was hydrolocked is the starter wouldn't turn the engine over. I guess I'm amazed that a starter with a 12 volt battery can bend a pushrod, as others have reported.

Finally, WRT engine rotation--someone said check to see which way the engine would turn to pull air past the radiator. I believe on my tractor the fan pushes air forward through the radiator, rather than pulling it through like on a car. I believe most heavy equipment works this way to help clear dust and debris from the front of the radiator. I learned this when I was doing some clearing years and years ago and the dozer operator parked his dozer right up by the fire so the engine fan would blow air on the fire to keep it going.

I'll have to look and double check but I'm pretty sure that on my l3240 the fan pulls air from front of tractor. I say this because I remember peeling leaves off the grill last w/e while the engine was running.

My MX5100 draws air through the radiater as there is debris on the front screen.

The weather looks good tomorrow. I will try to get the tractor started then. Good to have all this advise.

How did you make out?,,,,do you have KTAC?, I'd let them address it

My Kubota has a decompression knob. Not sure if they all have one but if so I have to wonder if pulling the decompression knob while cranking would be enough. My Kubota is the smallest one I think they ever made. I have saved it many times except once, but its easy to right a 1200 lb baby Kubota. Anyway I don't have a joy stick so with my twin spool I just have to push down to drop the bucket which I am getting good at. My Kubota is only 40 inches wide.

That makes sense. If they put a debris screen on the radiator, I would think it surely means that the fan draws it through the screen before the radiator.

Took the new to me JD3005 with a 300 fel for a quick drive on daughters pasture. I have mowed it with old 1010 for 11 years. It is not level, but not too hilly. I did not feel at ease like I do with the old tractor. tires are loaded, and the largest for that model. Does heavy ballast at the 3PH stabilize them sideways???

It depends on what you use for ballast.
A ballast box does help...just keep it low. There's no need to raise it anymore then 5-6 inches off the ground.
A long implement, like a rotary cutter, would not be good ballast...too much weight too far out. You don't want to use any implement that extends too far.

Have you tried mowing with your loader off? Not just the bucket off....that makes it worse.

As Ken45101 wrote...have the wheels set in the widest position and the rear tires filled. As the 3005 has a fixed ROPS, make sure you use your seatbelt too.

I do not see where that is a problem. The further out the weight, the more effective it is. My 7' cutter is a more effective counterbalance than my 7' box blade even though I think the BB is the same weight or a little heavier. The only issue I see is that I have to watch more carefully where the rear end is if I am maneuvering in tight quarters.

I'm curious as to why you see an extended weight as a problem.

Glad u are okay!!If you have the insurance why not just get a roll-back to carry to the dealer(trained mechanic)? If you do start and mess it up worse,is that going to going to affect what your insurance is going too cover?Just wondering, thats why I thought we had it there for...And seems that it will also be alittle lighter bill the insurance has to cover, not having to buy new motor or parts. It will be just tearing yours down and making sure all is good before the green light.
