Way too much talk about this problem! 11 pages! Why not just buy an aftermarket altenator w/internal regulator off of Ebay or many others. Price is $75 to $105. Find something close and use shims (washers) to align belt. May have to modify stay (they cost$7-8) and do minor rewire leaving the original harness alone for the future. If tracor is not that necessary, just wait. Better yet..... take original to a alt/starter shop and have it fixed. I know most of this has been discused, but thought I would add my :2cents:

Jim
That would work. But it leaves the original poster paying for a warrenty repair.

Do you need it or not. When alt from Kubota comes in ....... switch them and you have a spare or sell it. :)

Maybe Jim would help pay for the repair.

I know I said similar in a previous post without thinking, but most warranty claims require return of failed part to manufacturer ( supposedly for failure analysis, but more for proof of failure )

The dealer should have pulled an alternator off a stock unit to make the repair, and ordered back new. I'd be willing to bet the alternators are similar if not same across several models as these machines don't really use much electrical power.

If I needed my tractor that bad, I'd pay. Lets see 1 1/2 hr to dealer and 1 1/2 back. By staying home ...... I've paid for the aftermarket alt and I'll still get the one under warranty work. I forgot about core charge on somethings.

+1 Alternators are pretty standardized across all kinds of engines (one foot, two feet, etc).

It seems when people are talking about buying a Kubota on this forum, they very commonly discuss how to get the last $50 off the price, even if it means shopping the price among different dealers. They want a rock-bottom price, which is completely understandable. But it also seems they want those same dealers to be able to perform any warranty repair, replace any part, instantly. You're never going to get Walmart pricing with Nordstrom service--there's no room for the dealer to make profit.

Add to that the fact that all big modern businesses have switched to managing both inventory and supply chain to be as lean as possible. One small glitch (tsunami, anyone?) and you've got a hole. If you think alternators are hard, try betting on price and availability of RAM memory chips :)

I can sure understand that.

Not trying to knock anyone, just trying to add a little perspective for some.

Sure, I understand where you are coming from...

HMMM! Do I understand you're saying that the dealer is supposed to send a mechanic out to disassemble a new tractor for no pay? Then re-assemble same new tractor after the part comes in a few days, again for no pay? Who picks up that $100 plus tab? Kubota only pays for the one time R&R on the owner's machine, not for the extra time on the dealer's. Should the dealer be adding a few hundred to the sales price to cover such contingencies??? Are you willing to kick that in up front? ;)Didn't think so... Neither am I. I'll wait a little while.

I think what I would expect is for all manufacturers to have a reasonable inventory of replacement parts that would be expected to fail

I think in all of our minds (well most of them anyway), an alternator fits that discription

It does not cost a company THAT much to stock a reasonable inventory of warrenty parts, but what does it do to a customers opinion of them when their beloved toy is sitting waiting on a part that should be on a shelf somewhere across this huge country

Maybe I've got it good, I dunno, as I have certainly done this in my field, and didn't worry about it, it takes 5 min tops to pull an alternator off my B2400.

If it is the difference of keeping a customer happy and in operation VS down waiting for an undisclosed amount of time and not happy, yep, thats what I'm saying. the time it takes the tech to reinstall is irrelevant, if his tech is worth his salt, he'll know how to wash it in with other repairs or internal labor op's

You really think there is 100% work on your machine only every time it's in the shop ? to an extent, there has to be time to cover "extras" during the day

who pays for the tech coming to the phone to diagnose or assist a customer that comes int he shop with problem ?
If the tech isn't getting paid he sure isn't going to be doing these either.

I'm very familiar with warranty repairs, the biggest reason I'm in industrial equipment now instead of automotive/med duty trucks.

I don't like working for free, makes it tough to pay my bills.
