I have 2 gens.

A 2k Honda suitcase for the pellet stove, fridge, TV and computer/internet modem.

And a 4k Coleman for the water heater and well pump, which hasn't been actually put to the test yet.

Bob, you saying your 4k couldn't fire up your well ain't what I wanted to here.

Any idea what your start up amps were on your well ?

The depth of my well is about 300 feet. I had trouble with the 8kw and ended up putting 10 guage wire in the well. I can now run it on the 5 kw. I do not have the 4 kw anymore. You must test yours to know. How deep is your well? If it is shallow it will not be a problem, but test anyway.

60' and yes, it's definitely something I need to move up on the list.

Two now, working on building a third. An old 4.5 k industrial gas just for the well, and it lives in the well house, and a Honda 2K inverter for the electronics in the house, as well for keeping the food cold, and the pellet stove. Trying to build a diesel inverter system, as keeping fresh gas around is a PITA. Always have diesel, but some times get flooded in, and can't get to a gas station.

I have way more than I need;
1 Generac PTO 25 25kw 50kw surge mounted on forks so I can take power anywhere I can get the tractor. It also has a 100 amp breaker panel mounted on the generator with various plugs from 15 to 200 amps.
1 6kw silent Chinese piece of junk that failed at 41 hours but has since been rebuilt with new Chinese junk parts.
2 Generac XL4000's
1 Yanmar 5kw waiting for a rebuild.
1 spare Yanmar L100 (pieces) waiting for rebuild.

That is a shallow well and your 4kw should be fine. Test anyway of course.

Two.
7550 watt Troy-bilt electric start for the whole house and just picked up a Champion 2000 watt Inverter to run the furnace for extended times.
I just tested it out and got 10 hours run time on a gallon of gas at 1/4 load.
