8Ft blade on MX5100?

Anyone heard of Bison blades?

Bison blades are very good blades, at least the heavy duty ones are that I know of. ;)

I know that some of the John Deere-Frontier blades are made by Bison.

I looked at them extensively before I bought my Land Pride. Main reason that I went LP was I didn't want to wait for 6 months to get the blade that I wanted. If your dealer or your dealers distributor has the blade in stock that you are interested in, then for sure consider a Bison blade.

As was mentioned, if there is any way that you can swing the hydraulics, even just the angle hydraulic, it will make your life waaaaaaaaay easier. Might want to consider a tilt hydraulic also. If you have other grading implements, a tilt cylinder of a top and tilt set on your 3pt would be the way to go.

One other item that I have found to help out quite a bit is to have skid shoes on the blade. They really help out with only allowing the blade to cut X amount or even to hold it up off the ground for snow removal. Of course all this stuff costs lots of $$$$. So I would guess that you will be looking somewhere between $1200-$4000, all depends on how far you want to go.

Your tractor weighs about 5k pounds with the loader and without any ballast, do you have it ballasted with filled tires or wheel weights? The added weight will get the tractor to perform better for grading. Do you have any remotes and if you do how many?

A dealer in town has a bison for $900 and the tractor dealer has a woods for $1200. Almost identical blades...bison weighs 200lbs more

King Kutter blades are junk in my opinion. Used a 7 footer on my 8N for 2 years, then bent the mounting bracket. Got a Land Pride 7', it was nice. Moved it to my L3940 and added hydraulic angle myself. Philip.

Price is right that's for sure, and at 677lbs & rated for 65hp it will work good for you. As you noted same blade, but one is 200lbs more, which makes them not the same quality of blade. You probably have to jump up another grade quality with the Woods to get up to the same weight class. Big weight differences of the same size units will almost always tell you which one is the better product.

I still feel that an 8 footer would be good, but a 7 footer will work out fine for you and the Bison is a good product for a great price.

Let us know what you decide to do.

I have a MX 5000 and have a QA 7.5 blade mounted on the front. When angled it just covers the wheel spacing. Our machines have plenty of power to handle an 8' blade, so don't worry. You will need loaded tires or chains. If you have a loader i suggest you go with a QA front blade, so much easier going forward especially on long stretches.

I think that the OP is going to use this for grading, not so much for snow.
