Come on now ... think "self incrimination", as in, no desire to do so.

No, some brainless farmer with no ability to continue to learn doused it while covering rusted heaps of some scrap steel that may have been old equipment.

Why is it that NOBODY in the Lemmings group can do research on the internet and prove me wrong?! Anyone? I'll give you a hint; spraying diesel on old equipment is a very poor idea if preservation is your objective and it IS not approved nor legal in any state, county or jurisdiction. Period. C'mon, now I'm taunting you. Prove me wrong!! If you give me "well, everybody says it works", I'll tell you to go eat poo with the flies since it clearly works for them. You have a brain. You have anger because I've told you that you are flat WRONG. What's stopping you from doing a little research on the internet to support your claim??? I'll tell you the problem; facts. Yeah, they will get in your way. ;) Learn a bit. I'll tell you now, the day I quit learning will be the day that I die.

If you buy a new piece of steel from a vendor, it usually comes covered in an oily substance. I don't know exactly what that substance is, but it's oily ... & so is diesel. And I'm sure it's applied to the steel to keep it from rusting before it gets to the customer. I don't understand why you don't think diesel prevents rust, when there are so many indicators that it does, including from experienced folks saying that it does.

First chance I get I think I will take a piece of steel, wire brush it clean, brush on some diesel on half of it, leave the other half bare, & set it in the yard. I have no doubt the bare side will show at least some rust by the next morning or two & will get worse & worse as the days go on. And the diesel covered side will stay un-rusty until it slowly wears off, at which time more could be applied to keep the rust at bay.

I'm not saying it's legal, just that I have no doubt that it does work.

If you do something and see with your own eyes that it works, why on earth would you have to prove it? People are posting from experience and you're telling them they are too stupid to know that they'll get wet if they stand out in the rain without a scientist to back them up.

Wow Dargo, did you have a rough Thanksgiving?

I welded some old scrap steel to make a kelp fork for my bucket. I never cleaned up or painted the steel.

Because of this thread before I left camp I sprayed a couple of tines with diesel, a couple of tines with fluid film and left a couple of tines blank and left it out in the weather for the winter. I will let you know this spring what I find.

If anyone wants to turn me in I am the only place in the head of snug cove and I will see if I can time the troopers coming to arrest me for when I need to go in for a meeting and save a air fare.

Nope, great Thanksgiving, thanks. I have little patience for people who fall for old wive's tales and never question the obvious. You are doing all I ask anyone to do; find out for yourself or actually do some research. I'm glad I received a good education at a very strict private college. The only issue is that I never had to put up with people like some in this thread. They all got pink slipped the first month of college and either transferred out to a state school or no school at all. The best lesson learned was to actually use your brain and question something if it doesn't seem right. Pretty simple, but as you can see, most people do not do so.

That's a good point/ question for Dargo: With the incredible seriousness according to you of diesel on the ground & then into ground water, either you really screwed up bad or you decided to do your own illegal experiment. Which is it?

Edit: It looks like it was actually Soundguy that mentioned the diesel getting into the ground water

Busted my arse! I freaking poured 5 gallons on that plant!! Geez, how dense can you be?! Does everyone have to explain jokes to you? Guess what, it killed everything, but the kudzu, within a 5' circle...for about a month. After a month everything grew back no problem. Diesel fuel doesn't even work well at all for a weed killer! No wonder this simple issue is above you.
