Needed new truck, or just wanted one?

EVERY 18 MONTHS???!!! Does your state charge sales tax on the entire purchase price of the new vehicle, or do they adjust it on what your trade in is worth? Here in Michigan, if you buy a $40,000 new vehicle, and your trade in is worth $39999, they still soak you for the full tax on 40 grand. What a ripoff.

That is just incredible!

I would love to have a newer truck, but the prices are to high. So I will continue to run my 1991 Ford F-250 with 185,000 miles.

Seems like I bought several vehicles to do the job on one. I needed a 4x4 and I needed to haul tool, do I bought a 3500 4xe srw, then I needed more hauling so I went with a drw 3500, but then it wan't a great drive around vehicle and I always needed to haul the tools out when I went shopping. Couldn't use a cap because of large items in the bed.

So I went back to an Excursion, ...I was getting close, but putting tools in and out all the time was a pain. Taking the tools in and out.

Yep it took me quite a few vehicles to realize I needed TWO separate vehicles. I ended up with a Sprinter diesel for drive around and hauling as the interior is more than 6' tall. And the other is a 4x4 utility body vehicle that hold all my tools locked behind compartments so I never ever have to unload.

Two great vehicle and will drive them till the wheels fall off.

Sorry, not for sale....I have no intention of selling it until I cannot drive any longer.

Those 2500 suburbans/yukons are great. And, very hard to find.

I've always kept vehicles a long tine and put a lot of miles on them. My 1995 Chevrolet 1500 has over 200k and is trouble free. Just routine maintenance is all it's ever needed. It lives at the farm now. I hope to give it to my grandson in about ten years or so.

Having two trucks is nice. I'm enjoying my 2011 Chev 2500.

Now if I can just convince the wife to let me trade her '08 Yukon XL in on another truck.........

I had a real difficult time getting her into that Yukon and out of a Safari van but once she got in it she doesn't want to get out of it.

Does that Sprinter have the 5 cylinder Mercedes Benz diesel?

My last truck purchase was way more want than need although I convinced myself I needed it. The old one was an '07 Silverado Crew Cab 2WD that when I bought it, was sure that I didn't need 4WD and adamant about not getting it. Well, after driving down turn rows on farms that we were looking to buy and getting stuck twice in 10 minutes, and then getting stuck in my front yard with a small trailer attached, (the ground was pretty soggy at the time) I changed my tune and my wife fortunately agreed to let me trade that for a 4WD. Haven't been stuck since and I've driven down rutted turn rows, across plowed fields and all over the farm in it!

I'd like a new truck. My '05 Ford is long ago paid for and is flawless. I'd like a double cab and cruise control. But, as others have said, new trucks cost what our first house did. Simply cannot justify it for a long, long time.

Reckon I'll be driving the one I got and be grateful for it.

I hear about only paying the sales tax on the "balance, after trade" here on TBN. Guys kinda forget that each state is different.

Michigan indeed taxes the new vehicle sales price. Period. Trade or no trade has absolutely nothing to do with it.

And most people I know say that discourages them from buying a new vehicle more frequently. 6% tax here on a $40,000 vehicle is $2400. What a ripoff.
