Best all around gun?

Well if you want your money back I will pay for the shipping and the dealer fee!. Bet you wouldnt sell it for that tho huh? One thing I like about them beside the excellent fit and finish microgroove rifeling and the ability to shoot shorts, longs, and LR interchangeably is how quiet they are. With that long barrel and closed breech they are noticeably quieter than my semiauto rifles. CB caps fired thru a 39A are about like a mouse poot. Let me know if you want rid of it.:)

No...it's not for sale...
I buy guns, but rarely sell or trade them.

If rural estate auctions are any indication I think you would probably find a .22 rimfire, a shotgun and maybe a 30-30 Winchester to be the common choices. If it cannot be dispatched with one of those three, its probably time to move anyway
All of my guns go bang when I pull the trigger but then again I do get hoarse sometimes during long practice sessions:D:D

I read somewhere that Canada has higher ( or at least about the same) gun ownership like the USA. But they don't kill each other with guns as much for some reason.

Actually we are way below the US. Total people holding a current firearm license in Canada is 1,886,057.

Facts and Figures (April - June 2011)

Our firearm rules are very restrictive, especially around how we are permitted to aquire, store and transport firearms. As I mentioned before no one is legally allowed to conceal carry a firearm on their person. The simplistic end result is when you dont have a loaded gun at hand, or pointed at you, you tend to find other ways to resolve a conflict.

....

Or any brand or caliber for that matter. A squib load in any is a PITA.

Just scoped my newest acquisition, a Savage 111 in .338 Lapua, accutrigger and accustock with a Karsten adjustable cheek. Installed a Leupold VX3 LRT 6.5 x 20 with Warne rings.

Picked up a couple boxes of PPU 230 grain FMJBT's to shake down the rifle with. I'll be hand loading Lapua Brass with CCI Benchrest Magnum Rifle Primers, Hogdon powder and Sierra Match King projectiles.

I'll sight it in at 100 yards. Should be NBD out to at least 750 yards....

Muzzle velocity on the PPU round is 3300 fps.

What a sweet trigger. Factory set pull is 2.5 pounds and no creep at all.

Looking forward to that New Mexico trip next year.

Try this again, but calculate it per capita. Canada has 35M people, whereas the USA has 312M people, around 9 times as many. Of course there are going to be more gun owners in the USA than Canada. A valid comparison is via ownership on a per capita basis, and not absolute numbers.

This is a very simplistic statement as well. :)

As a counter-example -- the firearms laws in Mexico, in particular for handgun ownership, are much more restrictive than the USA's, and of course far more restrictive than Canada's. Nevertheless, despite these restrictions the murder rate in Mexico is about a factor of 5 higher than the USA's.

I just checked some statistics. Don't know how reliable the numbers are though. There are about 250 000 000 guns in private ownership in the US. Another statistic said that 43% of US households have a gun(s).
We bought Marlin .22 to clean our pond from muskrat and we also have very old double barrel shotgun we occasionally use to shoot hedge apples. You throw the apple up and hit it while it is falling down.
It never crossed my mind that I would have to use the gun for self defence. If I would have to have a gun for selfdefence I would sell the house and move somewhere else.
