Tire Prices!! Geeze

Good to know. I am looking at the Falken MT tires.

I have had 2 sets of Falken Tires on both of my Saturns and really had good service out of them.

I had a set of Falkan on my 2006 Buick and got only 19000 miles on them. I replaced them with Bridgestones (almost twice the price),but with over 10000 miles on them I see almost no wear.:thumbsup:

usually get my tires from tread depot.com. Had to buy a trailer tire for my dual axle trailer. local tire shop sold it to my for 85.00 out the door. on line it was 80.00

You guys are depressing me, I've got to get new tires (6 of them) for my DRW Dodge 3500 utility body. I'm afraid to ask what they will cost.
The stock American generals only lasted 25,000 miles

They have to be as HD as they make for that size, since the truck sits at ~ 12,000 pounds.

Just bought 2 batteries, CTD, for $250.

Just 2 new batts. 200.00. for mine. They give me a discount at the parts store
I put toyos on mine 285-75-17 last yr I believe I paid like 800.00 from tread depot

They get rotated every 7,500 miles.

My Suburbans seem to wear tires fairly evenly. Is there any advantage to rotating them, given this? I have never taken the time to do it. I guess my spare is probably rotting away.

When I commuted to work I had a FWD sedan, and that car used front tires faster than rear ones as expected. When I only needed one pair at a time I would put the new ones on the rear like they recommend. I just don't understand the value of rotating your tires all the time unless they wear the outsides faster than the insides or whatever, but my vehicles haven't that I've noticed.

I guess you don't tow much. Most AT truck tires have about 13/32" tread when new. I have measured all my tread depths then towed 2000 miles and measured again and have seen the rears lose 3/32"

I also like to buy all 4 tires new at the same time, not just 2. If I rotate I can get even wear all around. Does not matter if its a little fwd car or my F350

Got lucky in that they were 15" tires...
Got the whole set for $85 ea with 65K tread wear rating...
These newer cars and truck utilize the larger sizes and they sure are pretty but very expensive to keep up...

Whew, you guys make me glad I don't have any of those modern 17" and bigger tires.:laughing: I bought a new set of 4 BFG Long Trail T/A P225/70R15 tires for my old Ranger from Discount Tire on 10/4/07 for a total out the door price of $426.55. They rotate them ever 7k miles and re-balance every 2nd rotation or upon request, repair flats, etc. at no cost. They're supposed to be 60k mile tires and I reckon that's right since they don't appear to be half worn out with 28.4k miles. I just looked at Discount Tire's website and those tires are now $125 each, but that would be plus tax, so yep, they've gone up.

Chris, some 25 years ago, when fleet management was part of my job, I read in one of the magazines that while tires last longer if rotated, if you paid to have tires rotated, it would be cheaper to not do it. but since I buy my tires from Discount Tire Co., they rotate them at no cost, so I do buy 4 at a time and let them rotate them.

Now I've only asked them to rotate tires I bought there, but I recently had them fix a flat on our '02 Crown Vic that still has the Michelins that were on it when we bought it. The guy measured the tread depth and said they had 7/32, but they did not charge anything for fixing the flat, and last week sent me an e-mail to bring that car in for free tire rotation.

Yea, I rotate my tires myself. I have 2 large jacks and my shop is set up with a compressor and air hose reels at 3 locations. It takes me about 10 minutes to rotate them on any of my vehicles. I then go back with my torque wrench and again at 100 miles.
