rear blade/want hydraulics to turn

I have a Kubota BX-22.

I want to install a hydraulic piston to move the rear blade left and right while plowing snow.

Any pics or tips on this install?

My advice is to get a minimum of a 3" dia cylinder. You will not find ANY OEM manufacturer of rear blades that uses anything smaller to angle the blade, most use 3 1/2" or 4". I also would recommend a minimum of a 12" stroke, again the OEM guys use 14" and 16" stroke cylinders, but those are on larger blades. A lot of guys end up using smaller units and while they do work, they should have used a bigger hydraulic unit in my opinion. Take a look at these drawings to get a good idea of how the OEM units are done.

When you look at the drawing link, LandPride RBT35 uses a 2" cylinder for both tilt and side movement. The 3.5" cylinder is only for an optional guage wheel and it has a 1600 psi cushion valve on it. This RBT-35 blade is way too big for a BX-22.

I did not suggest a 4" cylinder. I said that a 3" cylinder should be the minimum dia and the RBT35 uses a 2x6 cylinder for tilt, a 3 1/2" x 14" for angle and offset. I have NO idea where you have come up with the figures that you have listed? :confused2: As far as showing the RBT35 drawings, that was to give the guy an idea of how the OEM guys set their blades up, not recommending that blade for a BX, he already has a blade. Come on now, do you really think that I am that far out there? :confused3:

I agree with MtnView, 3" minimum cylinder.

While it will only take the force of a very SMALL cylinder to angle the blade, it is holding it angled that becomes the issue. Especially if you catch a curb or something with the edge. Or if you are also planning on using it for dirt work in the summer.

The edge of the blade becomes a very long lever trying to move the cylinder. It can create extreme pressure and unless you incorporate a relief into the system if you use a small cylinder, it isnt too hard to overpressurize and pop hoses.

I've linked to the three threads that were created when I added a cylinder to my rear blade.

One is adding a remote valve, another is adding a cylinder, and the third is re-designing after a few problems. It's a fair bit of reading, but it may save you some issues and extra expense. Mine works very well now, no problems since the re-design.
