Got results from spring test and installation. I received 3 springs from McMaster Carr, all of 302SS material. All spring rate test were done to same test conditions, 1 inch of extension, force measured with fish scale.
Stock spring, 30lbs/in., .104 wire, .815 dia, 4.21 long.
MMC 94135K34, 22lbs/in, .106 wire, .840 dia, 4.00 long.
MMC 94135K33, 17lbs/in, .092 wire, .730 dia, 4.00 long.
MMC 94135K32, 13.5lbs/in, .080 wire, .640 dia, 4.00 long.
The 1st pic is of all 4 springs sitting together in order listed above.
I decided to install the K32 spring. When insalled, spring was still expanded, and pedal was pulled to top limited position. Pusing the pedal down was MUCH easier, but still offered enough resistance so it cannot be done by accident. I have attached 2 pics of spring in normal position with pedal up, and 1 pic of spring fully extended with pedal fully depressed. If you decide to change springs, pull the spring pin from pedal lever to remove and replace spring, this will make job much easier. If you think K32 spring will be too weak, try the K33 spring. They are less than $10 each, so you can't go wrong. I am really happy with the new feel of the diff lock pedal. Philip.

That is what I want as well. I told Kubota rep at National Farm Machinery Show that needed to be added. He said it was a good idea. Wonder how far that went up the chain? Philip.

There listening. I've had some in depth conversations with reps from Kubota Canada on the mods I've made and mods I'm still planning to do. The problem with these changes is by the time they act on them our model tractors may not even exist
I'm into modding another machine right now but will be working on the 4X4 indicator early in the new year.

I also asked about greasing the front axle rearward bearing. They looked at me clueless. I had to go show them on a model they had at the show. This was a factory rep out of Columbus Ohio?
I wonder if they monitor this site? So much they could learn from real life use and work experience.

They know about the site because I've personally sat down with them (reps) and showed them the site. They view my YouTube channel because they mentioned various videos I have up.
I would say they do. Face it. Any smart manufacture should. Doing so will tell them what really matters to there customers. I learned last month that photos of my tractor went back to Japan with a high ranking Kubota executive

Great idea on the spring. Will be following this thread for a 30 day report...
If you want someone to test the 17 lb one, send it my way.
Also, it would be nice if Kubota took note of the paint on their tractors. The paint on the castings is bad bad bad. They need to slow things down so it can actually get some paint on it.

I will update in 30 days. I will keep the 17 pound spring just in case I want to change out myself. But please, get the 17 pound spring youself, give it a try, and we will await your report. The larger the test pool the better, more feedback from different users would be appreciated. The spring and shipping is less than $10 from McMaster Carr. I don't think I could send you the one I have for that price, and they have next day shipping to my house for free. Philip.
This is NOT a complaint about my dealer. My Kubota guy is busy delivering several tractors a week. His work time is always taking one in or moving one out. He is 50 miles from me, and everything was done by email, phone and him coming to me. The same is true for the environ that surrounds his business, so I understand his lack of keyboard time.
With that premise understood, I have found that very few if any dealers stay current with their products or this site.
The knowledge found on this site far surpasses any in-person experience I have ever had from any dealer.
If product improvement is indeed a corporate concern, this site should be mandatory for the RSM's (Regional Sales/Service Reps) to understand the satisfactions and concerns regarding their products. We may be a small genre of tractordom, but it does add up.
And Mr. Short needs to market his modifications
