This is NOT a complaint about my dealer. My Kubota guy is busy delivering several tractors a week. His work time is always taking one in or moving one out. He is 50 miles from me, and everything was done by email, phone and him coming to me. The same is true for the environ that surrounds his business, so I understand his lack of keyboard time.

With that premise understood, I have found that very few if any dealers stay current with their products or this site.

The knowledge found on this site far surpasses any in-person experience I have ever had from any dealer.

If product improvement is indeed a corporate concern, this site should be mandatory for the RSM's (Regional Sales/Service Reps) to understand the satisfactions and concerns regarding their products. We may be a small genre of tractordom, but it does add up.


And Mr. Short needs to market his modifications:)

I know plenty of dealers who are on this site on a regular basis.

Some don't comment and others do!

I think that I need to modify my statement to "I have yet to meet or speak with a dealer that even knows about this website".

I am sure that there are dealers who frequent this site...just none in my experience.

I have a question about the dif lock:
When you step on the lever you are in lock position when you remove your foot are you still in Lock?
I have been told a couple of diffrent things about the lock. One is that it will stay locked untill you step on the brake or on the clutch. The other is the lock stays engaged untill you remove your foot.
Once you step on the lever how long does it stay locked ? The theroy that it is only engaged while you are on the lever really does not make sence to me.If your foot is the only thing that keeps it locked how are you supposed to keep your heal on the lever and step on the throttle at the same time? with the same foot? (Although that would not stop me I'd just use the hand throttle.) My throttle and dif lever are both on the same side the right.
I believe once mine is stepped on it stays engaged untill you either, clutch or, brake. At least that is how mine seems to work.

I don't know about all tractors but on both of my Kubotas it will lag momentarily after remove your foot before it disengages. It is not an issue on mine as it is on the left side and the HST pedal is on the right.

Not sure on the L5740, although I will familiarize myself more next Thursday.:thumbsup: On my L3710, the dif lock is on the left. It seems to stay engaged until the "friction" comes off the rear axle, and then the lever springs back up and unlocks. If i need it to stay locked, I must keep my heel on the lever, which isn't an issue, since my hydro pedal is on the right, and I rarely use the dif lock.

I grew up on geared tractors, but once I got used to hydro I got spoiled and wouldn't go back. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, but for my uses I really appreciate the hydro.:)

Once you remove your foot the spring Philip changed to a lighter spring rate will pull the lever up and release the diff lock. I like the idea of putting an electronic actuator on the lever connected to a momentary switch. I think it could be added easily while leaving the lever able to work with your foot as designed.

Well, I put the the lightest spring that Philip gave to us, which happens to be the same he used. Let me tell you, that was maybe the best thing I have done. It works fantastic. So much easier to use and it still released easy. Philip thanks for doing all the work on this.

If anyone needs a spring, I have two more. They only come in packs of three. 4 bucks for the spring and 4 bucks to ship. If you want one, let me know. It cost 12 bucks for 3 springs.
