Why not just get a Unimog??

I assume you're talking about the Mog 404.
Slow, underpowered, noisy, ride is crap, but you can climb the side of a building with one of these brutes (at least in reverse).

I've looked at 404s and driven them. If I ever got one, I'd consider swapping the gas engine for a Mercedes diesel.

I'm talking about the 1990's to 2000's Diesel ones.

I've always thought the Unimogs were super neat vehicles. I've been looking at them a lot lately.
I've been thinking in the future maybe I should get a Unimog instead of a factory cab tractor.
Right now I have a full size 4x4 truck that I hardly ever drive because I have a company vehicle that is a 1 ton van. But I need the truck for the hauling & towing capabilities on occation. I also love 4x4ing & used to be into it big time & kind of miss having a capable vehicle to do this.
My tractor I use to maintain my steep 1000' long driveway, occationally pull a tree or two out of the woods, do some landscaping work,..sometimes, & mostly for snowblowing my 1000' long driveway.

So why couldn't I sell both & get a unimog to do everything plus more?
I know they are expensive but so is a decent sized factory cab tractor & you can't drive it on th eroad or anything.

Anyone else ever thought of this?

Just 2 cents worth here........There's a Uni-Mog with a plow and back-hoe attachment at Route 219 & Connoisarauly Rd in Cattaraugus NY. That's been sitting there all Summer. I don't know anything about it, but I do know that the City of Buffalo had a bunch, back in the 70's, and I don't know if it's any of their old stock. I could never understand why they gave up on them! 'Meaty' little vehiches that could navigate lots of our old narrow streets. I've never seen one like this with a BH! The MD Dept of Forests and Parks (now called the Dept of Natural Resources) had a Uni-Mog back in the 1970's. My Father worked for that department back then. He said the truck never got used...just sat wasting away. It was a dump version, I believe...only saw it once.

Don't be fooled, while most Unimogs are happy at 88km/h, you can get Ambulance, firetruck, police, or other models with the high speed axles. My RW1 (rescue truck) will do 109km/h (68mph) in 16th gear, it has 16fwd, and 16 reverse gears, so yes, it goes as fast backwards as it does forwards. You can get mogs with up to 24 gears, with a splitter that's 48 gears, super crawler goes as low as 4000:1

Mogs are available with 3 PTO's, Front, Rear, and mid-mount (side PTO in the old models) the Mid mount is a high speed PTO for running high flow hydraulics for things like picker cranes etc. Combined with a front or rear 3pt hitch, full 240bar hydraulics, and nearly any accessory, they are very handy.

They are favored among German and UK farmers, as well as forestry, mining, and nearly any industry that you can think of.

My Rescue truck returns an honest 15mpg highway driving, for a 1988 136hp, 13,000lb vehicle, I think that's pretty good.

I hunted out of one in Africa, the thing was unstoppable. River crossings, 25°
rocky slopes and deep swales were no match. Only problem was they ride as if they have no suspension.
