Your metric size should also be on the sidewall of the tires as well.

Don't get straight "ladder chains" on ag tires(R1's)!

Get the chains that have links binding the two cross links togther and if you have icy conditions, get the same pattern with the welded lugs on them. The problem with ladder chains is that slip between the lugs and are useless. Don't forget to use chain tighteners also.

Nope. This is an urban legend. I have 4 link ladder chains on my ag tires. They have made a world of difference traction wise. The key to using ladder chains on ag tires is to not use tensioners. Left a bit loose, the chains are the first thing to make ground contact. They are the best value for tractors so I do not think they should be eliminated from consideration. I like them lots better than the chains alledged to be designed specifically for ag tires (your description) called "duo chains" as there is not anywhere near the spacing between cross links compared to ladder chains especially the two link type.

If you can properly install tire chains, tensioners are not needed. Tire chain tensioners in ALMOST every instance are a money-maker for folks selling chains and a crutch for those that don't know how to use them.

Should I worry about putting them on the front tires (I have to use 4WD here due to the terrain...no flat roads/drives in sight) if I get the ones with the aggressive nubs on the back?

You probably won't need fronts for pulling power, but I find the tractor tries to walk sideways while plowing heavy snow with the rear blade angled. Your tractor is heavier than mine so you might not have the same problem.

One school of thought advises against using chains on the front due to added stress on the front drive train. I really don't have an opinion on that.

Definitely have the problem with walking sideways with the rear blade angled...if I need the front tire chains as well I will get them.

tires are the following:

XMR80
ASV 79

Be sure to explain to the Pewag folks
that these chains are intended for R1 Ag tires

My other question to you is this;

Are your rear tires ballasted with liquid
or cast wheel weights?

My second question is this; Are your rear wheels
installed with cast steel rims or are they constructed of
rolled steel?, if they are constructed of rolled steel the rim
interior will have ridges from the rolling press which indicates
they are a rolled steel rim base and therefore of weaker
construction and will flat spot and create situation referred to as
"The Hoppsies" at travel speeds.

My Tellesfdal chains fit a number of sizes. When I got them I had to cut at least a foot off the end of each chain.
