Timswi, that is a good looking truck. If GM can pull another one like this out of the bag for the 2013 models than I think everyone will start forgetting about the govt motors and start realizing what quality vehicles they make again.

I will never forget. Why should the Govt step in and decide who makes it and who does not. Its not just GM either. I moved my home mortgage to a bank that took no help. Why reward the ones that can not make it on their own?:confused2:

I mean come on. If you had a mom and pop truck customizing shop or were a guy doing roofs for a living and you made poor business decisions why should the tax payers bail you out and keep you up and running? And don't give me that lots of people would have lost their jobs if GM failed crap. GM is not even in the top 100 employers in the US. It was all political. Unions vote Dem. Enough said.

If GM was to fail, which they still may if you read what is going on, it would not have been that big of a deal. Yes, for a few months things would have been but the quality lines, products, buildings, and employees would have found their way to other manufactures. Everyone from Kia to Dodge.

I will never forget. Drink the Kook-Aid if you want.:confused2:

Law/Accounting firms....A bunch of people in one place who are looking for a painless deal and one person who will be straight with them...They can generally spend a few bucks too...

No matter what you're planning to buy, anyone ever told you to call mr/ms so and so and they'll take care of you?...Same thing....

Just harder to accomplish in a car dealer...Other people fighting for similar money.

This is kind of how it is with our Ford dealer and us boaters. I would guess out of the 80 or so at the marina he has sold to well over 1/2. Many times he does the deal on the lake then delivers the truck to the marina for a beer. Same deal with my insurance man.

My morals go completely against the bailout, but if Ford had not gotten in to trouble earlier and gotten money when the banks were still loaning, GM got in trouble and the banks weren't willing to loan. The government loaned them money and actually made some decisions for them - I don't agree with it but it happened. I'm not going to avoid them for trying to stay afloat. I have a lot of friends and family that work of gm and they didn't agree with the bailout but it wasn't the ideal choice for anyone. They'd have rather had a bank loan them money but they wouldn't.

I see your point and having friends and family in that situation would also weigh heavy on me also but I still do not think it was the gubments job to step in.

I agree Ford got lucky. Mainly with timing. It all comes down to the Big 3 losing sight. I have heard so many times that they thought they were too big or never though it would happen to them. They got caught sleeping with their pants down. Not just GM, all 3. If it were not for Nissan and Toyota steeping up in the truck world the big 3 would not be putting out the good products they are now today.

I did not like the bailout either. Too much propping up companies by the government. The government should not be getting into business like they have been. Voters need to demand they stop it.

But....the bailout's a done deal. We can't change that now and trying to penalize GM for taking it is not productive but it's your right.

I was leaning to Ford when I was looking at trucks. They make a good product and I didn't like the buy out deal either. I finally came to the conclusion that politics was not really valid criteria for selecting a truck, at least not for me. Maybe for some, but not me.

I stopped at Ford dealer in San Antonio and was looking at one they had on the front line with a big "special deal" sign on it. Salesman came up and we git to talking about towing. I asked him about a comparison with Chev and his response was something like "you mean government motors"? it just really struck me wrong and I just smiled and turned around and walked away with him standing there with his face hanging out.

That last statement rings true. The more competition, the better the product...usually. I really like the Tundra but cannot afford them. That is one heck of a truck. The other 3 better keep their eyes on it.

Competition is the heart of our system. Makes everything better.

The Obama regime didn't care about helping the economy when they did the bailout. The bailout was all about payoff to the UAW. Obama could not care less about what truck anybody drives. Unionized Ford workers were helped just as much by the bailout as anybody else. So trying to "punish" GM for taking bailout money by buying a Ford doesnt make sense.

If you really want to make a statement against the bailout you should be voting against the Obama regime in 2012 and demanding no more UAW bailouts, no more Solyndra fiascos, no more green job subsidies, etc, etc.
