Isn't there a grease fitting on the pin end of that rod?

Yes, it is on the other side, I pulled that pin 1/3 of the way out and greased it by hand and hit the zerk again.

I just gave up for the day, job is almost done. My problem now is the clay here (and the cold and wind, thankfully the sun came out)

The bucket is so stuffed with clay I only get a small of dirt/clay each time. I tried to pry it out with a T post, no luck. Anyone have ideas about getting the bucket empty and keeping it mostly empty?

If the clay is still wet, open the bucket all the way and heat the bottom and sides with a rosebud and the clay will fall out. If the clay is dry hard-packed let it soak with water or water/lime mix overnight then try the above. What I have heard in other forums that seems to work is that you can treat the area to be excavated with lime for thirty days prior.
Myself, I don't have that kind of patience.

Hi Bob, thanks, I am thinking about putting in T posts around the dig site and "banging" the (open) bucket down on them to empty the bucket, anybody see any problems with this?

I am thinking about greasing the bucket too

There is some kind of twisting force going on that I do not understand on that keeper.

One function of that eye bolt is to keep that pin fixed. The pin should rotate with respect to the cylinder end only. And you need to keep that joint full of moly grease.

I took it apart and lubed that pin by hand and hit the zerk afterwards with red sticky

Nope. Think about it. Grease would be worse than clay. A heavy coating of Pam will work for about two bucket loads I'm told. The main problem is the right angles inside the bucket - they allow the soil to become compacted with no way air can slip behind it
