Terra-Dome Earth Shelter Build

Hello there Sam,
Hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday.
We did here on this end. We really enjoyed the month long stay in Arkansas.
Still struggling with where to settle, Ar or OK. We have scheduled a trip from the last week in March to second week in April to the border of Ar and will be looking for a place from Miami, OK south to Sallisaw. Oklahoma became tax friendly to federal retirees and that makes a difference. Got a real estate peson comming next week to give us a "guesstimate" of market value. Hope this will be the year to relocate. Hope the imment war between Iran and Israel doesn't mess up my travel/relo plans. LOL :confused2:
Take care and stay healthy.

I'm surprised to see this thread come back to life. Although I applaud Sam's attention to detail and construction quality, and courage to build something other than a conventional house; there is no way that 8" of concrete is going to survive the end of the world as predicted by the Mayan calendar and Pole Shift cultists. It saddens me to see intelligent people buy into this Jim Jones style of nonsense.

Even if the end of the world doesn't happen; but society breaks down into anarchy; those standard windows and doors won't stop the barbarians from getting in.

Since Sam is decidedly concerned about Armageddon happening, he should have bought an abandoned missile silo to turn into a survivalist's dream house.

I wish Sam and his family a long and happy life in their new home.

Seems to me that a TD will stand up to just about anything, earthquake, hurricane, even tornado's and fire. If there is civil unrest and burning of houses would you rather be in a TD or a stickbuilt? Oh wait you probably have insurance for that....NOT. I would rather be throwing lead out the windows from a TD. Also a pole shift could be a slow movement but would certainly have a devasting effect on the climate worldwide. Hopefully Yellowstone won't blow up, then all bets are off. Everyone should be as prepared for any and all disasters to the best of their ability. Otherwise all ya got is to meet down at the church and pray. No one knows what the future will bring, but it does not look good from where I can see.
We do have hopes and wishes and in that regard hope we all do better this year and December 21, 2012 comes and goes without incident.

I think a TD makes perfect sense in tornado country such as Oklahoma, and in hurricane country as well.

Without seeing TD's specs for seismic resistance I would bet it would handle low to moderate quakes as experienced recently in Ohio and Virginia very well. However the real test is a California or Japanese earthquake.

A TD's structure is definitely more fire resistant than any stick built house ever will be; but the key word is resistant. I suspect a sufficiently hot fire fueled by the home's contents could alter the structural properties of the concrete.

However; unless one has stockpiled an arsenal and enough rounds for a small army, an army of barbarians will quickly over run such defenses.

December 21, 2012 is an arbitrary man-made point in time.

Based on a proposed map of post Pole Shift Earth posted earlier in this thread; such drastic change would result in climatic and geologic changes that would make the Yellowstone super volcano look like a pop gun.

In any case, I will defend Sam's right to be paranoid; but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

On NPR yesterday I heard that one of those doomsday prophets who's been wrong twice recently said something like: I'm not a very good prophet.

Unfortunately you are exactly right....If we end up having to deal with roving gangs and marauders...If we reach that level of chaos in the US..then it won't matter what kind of house you have.....short of that Missile Silo....They will burn or gas you out....I have a brick house and the plywood to go over all the windows if ever necessary...but I am a realist...they can still burn me out and they can sure burn, smoke or gas Sam out of a Terra Dome house...Let's all hope it never comes to that....I sure don't lose any sleep over it....I try to enjoy each and every day above ground....:)

If you want some good reading about where science is heading, read Knocking on Heaven's Door. Written by a well-known astro-physicist, she explains how we are getting closer to really understanding how and why we came about and how we are probably not alone but will never meet them because of the distance.

I understand that since you or I will not meet God until we die....with faith the distance is not too far at all. :)

On NPR yesterday I heard that one of those doomsday prophets who's been wrong twice recently said something like: I'm not a very good prophet.

And to think people foolishly believe these clowns and sell all their worldly possessions and quit their jobs in anticipation of doomsday.

I sure don't lose any sleep over it....I try to enjoy each and every day above ground....:)

Smart man!

There are theories to warp space-time to shorten the time and distance; but that's all they are at the moment. However; some physicists now claim that neutrinos travel faster than light. If true, that will cause a profound rewriting of theories and textbooks.
