Hey Sam welcome back. Did you finish up the dome? Did you get the water leaks fixed? Hope everthing turned out fine. I just want to say I enjoyed this whole thread. thanks again.

We got all the roof covered except the last few feet of the west side where the dome begins to slope off and because the west berm is unfinished we will wait for warmer weather to complete. All leaks are sealed and the roofs water proofing, drainage and insulation systems are working great. We have been able to heat the whole house with a single free standing wood stove.

I'm surprised to see this thread come back to life. Although I applaud Sam's attention to detail and construction quality, and courage to build something other than a conventional house; there is no way that 8" of concrete is going to survive the end of the world as predicted by the Mayan calendar and Pole Shift cultists. It saddens me to see intelligent people buy into this Jim Jones style of nonsense.

Even if the end of the world doesn't happen; but society breaks down into anarchy; those standard windows and doors won't stop the barbarians from getting in.

Since Sam is decidedly concerned about Armageddon happening, he should have bought an abandoned missile silo to turn into a survivalist's dream house.

I wish Sam and his family a long and happy life in their new home.

mjncad, I am sure it was always obvious we were never building a dooms day shelter. Nor have we bought into the end of the world doom and gloom. We simple have opened our hearts and minds to the many possibilities and taken away the ability for the mainstream to shape our reality and keep us in fear. We all know the system is broken because we all failed to stand for anything meaningful. My intent was to inspire all who would dare to imagine that anyone could live independently if they were willing to work hard and think outside the box or cage we allowed them to put us in. I am simply being the change I wish the world could be. That is to live in harmony with the mother earth. I am sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable pushing you to read my thoughts which are out side your comfort zone. I will tell you all that I am thankful to alive during this great shift. I like to see the many opinions of the awake and the feeling I am getting is we are all in the process of a shift into something great. It is a time where the truth will be in the mainstream and all the failed system will be replaced. It will be the end of all war, famine and greed. The only nonsense is a closed mind. Our windows are open to invite in the light in and any who may need help. We know we are all in this together. So we plan help others through these difficult times. Love is the answer. I can appreciate the kind words but please don't twist my intent of this thread which is you can achieve anything, open your heat and mind to consider the many possibilities and have a plan.

In any case, I will defend Sam's right to be paranoid; but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

Being aware and with an open mind is not paranoid. I just think it is smart to live independently. Just imagine what you could do with your life if you had no bills and did not require a job.

Seems to me that a TD will stand up to just about anything, earthquake, hurricane, even tornado's and fire. If there is civil unrest and burning of houses would you rather be in a TD or a stickbuilt? Oh wait you probably have insurance for that....NOT. I would rather be throwing lead out the windows from a TD. :thumbsup: Also a pole shift could be a slow movement but would certainly have a devasting effect on the climate worldwide. Hopefully Yellowstone won't blow up, then all bets are off. Everyone should be as prepared for any and all disasters to the best of their ability. Otherwise all ya got is to meet down at the church and pray. No one knows what the future will bring, but it does not look good from where I can see.
We do have hopes and wishes and in that regard hope we all do better this year and December 21, 2012 comes and goes without incident.

On NPR yesterday I heard that one of those doomsday prophets who's been wrong twice recently said something like: I'm not a very good prophet.

Sam, I think it is fair to say something life changing is going to take place for all of us in the US and maybe the World..I think you have positioned yourself and family in a very responsible way to be able to survive whatever may befall us...I too have taken precautions to take care of me and mine...All we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst....to do less would be irresponsible...

And to think people foolishly believe these clowns and sell all their worldly possessions and quit their jobs in anticipation of doomsday.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Why does our culture put so much importance
on these "worldly possessions" simply because it makes us better slaves. To give up these things that bind us to this broken system is simply freedom and until you truly give up all your worldly responsibilities you won't understand.
