Still alive!

No pics, yet, but yesterday I used the man lift to cut the dead branch & set 3 of the 10 trusses  Finishing the trusses today.

Not being a fan of heights, that lift is one scary contraption when you're new to it & lifting yourself into mid-air! Especially when trying to operate a pole saw from a bucket that can sway to & fro (intentionally, so it stays level, but still scary). Feels extremely wobbly when you're not used to it & sensitive to its every little move & sound  Got better after a little use, once I realized it "probably" isn't going to come crashing to the ground

I positioned the lift 15-18 feet from the dead branch so I could let the lift take the bucket up & over to the cutting area, so the branch wouldn't fall on the lift. I very gingerly cut a small tip of the branch off to get a feel for it. Went fine & I moved up the branch toward the trunk cutting it piece by piece until done. Every piece fell straight down with a thump on the ground, causing no problems (I have extremely flat ground).

The bucket comes off by simply pulling a pin & lifting it off the end of the boom. And there's a big hook on the end of boom for the purpose of lifting things, so we used that & a cable to lift each truss.

Will post a pic or 2 ASAP.

Hey Bep, glad all went well, I started to tell you about how that bucket would feel, then thought naw, it might change your mind.
Great to hear you're getting your moneys worth, ya know were looking forward to those pics.

That' a dangerous thing, the fact they encourage the machine to be used as a crane. It is totally forbidden to use the larger much more HD machines for lifting anything but people and their tools/supplies.

There is such a higher risk of stressing and damaging the machine when used as a crane. It's a great convenience, but they should not be dual purpose.
A machine that has been used as a crane should not be used for the critical application of a man-lift.

Hey Bep, glad to hear it all went well, and sounds like you took the safe approach with the multiple cuts. Yep nice flat ground is the key to safer operation of all kinds of machinery (including tractors)

Bep, if I,m not mistaking, you stated in a earlier post that this will lift 350lbs
including bucket.
If your trusses are syp, most here are, a quick estimate would be to multiply total feet of 2x4 in truss, bottom chord, top chord, all diagonal supports x 1.2 lbs pf.

Jeeze man, haven't you learned anything on this thread?! Bubba's brother, Tufer just got his GED from welding that hook on a stationary object, as part of his graduation project, and he gets to keep anything that falls to earth from a height of more than 20' for the first week of testing the weld. He was told by big bro Bubba that JB Weld works way better than mig or tig welding, especially when underwater!:confused2::laughing:
