I wouldn't worry about prior abuse. Presumably such a unit would be designed such that the hydraulics run out of power to lift way before any physical damage could occur from lifting.

For vertical loads, yes, but a horizontal (ie side load) or a shockload is another story.

JB...I guess you get used to it after a while. I tree climb as well as tower climb. You learn to trust your equipment and then you are not so anxious.
