Buying Advice 2nd hand BX2230 vs New BX2360

We are on our second BX, our 2003 BX2200 has a bunch of hours and has always been used hard; never had any mechanical issues and no warranty work on either. With the low hours and price differential, I would go with the 2230.

Definitely forget the scoop and go with a loader no matter what you get.

Just my.:2cents:

+1 to TripleR's comments. We've had a BX2230 since 2005... completely trouble free and reliable. If the one you're looking at is in good condition, it should give many more years of dependable service. Your prices in Oz are indeed breathtaking!

There is always a contrarian in the group. Always.:) I've owned a BX2200 and some other BXs and still own one. I'm the one that usually, almost always suggests buying new vs used because of the 0% interest that Kubota offers. BUT usually there is only 2 or 3 thousand dollars difference between the new and used machines.
In this case I'm absolutely in with the crowd on this one. If the used is truly in decent shape and 300 hours it's a no brainer for me. Also, I'm with the crowd on getting the FEL now or all you'll have is a lifetime mower and that's not bad but that's still what it will be.
I had trouble justifying purchasing a FEL on my first tractor (BX2200) 9 years ago because i thought of it as a high priced wheelbarrow but I also knew it would be my last mower:) purchase in my lifetime. (Guess I was bad wrong there:D) What I ended up with when I got it home and started using it was a tractor that would also mow. One of the best purchases of my lifetime.
I bought a B2320 last year and have a BX25 with FEL/BH so I looked at the 3ph scoop for the B2320 and from what I read about it is that it just barely beats nothing and I found no supporters for buying it. Buy the FEL and save your money on the scoop.
Agreeing with the crowd on this one. Buy the used.

Here, a loader, in a crate, is $2500-2600. Simple to install, if the valve is already in place, which it should be. Would that put a loader at $3200 in Oz? These loader are typically built locally, not attached from factory?

I also agree that a 2230 is a 6 year old tractor, minimum. I'd take some fellow Aussie's advice and try to find the new machine for $20,000. If so, it would win in my book hands down.

Look at it this way. Look at the re-sale value that has been holding!!! Sure tractors are expensive everywhere, but with a solid resale value retention you've demonstrated by the asking price of a 6-7 year old tractor, that should give you confidence in your new investment.

Dang guys, my BX2360, 54" deck and loader was $13,400 with loaded turfs, here in Pennsylvania. I wonder if Messicks, or another big dealer, would ship one and for what cost.

Why is it Aussie prices are so high? Duties?

No duty on US product into Oz , but the importation is by Kubota
Australia ( Part of Kubota Japan ) and they want to cover themselves
in clover for their trouble. I doubt the freight costs per BX are USD750
from the GA factory to sitting at the Dealer . Australia has always been
a ripoff ; the retailers get the flack , but it's the importer who's the
cause . I Epurchase anything I can get from the US myself . Bought
a Benedetto Fratello from Mandolin Bros. last month ; UPS $612 , customs
$129 , sales tax $1025 . Saved at least $8000 on sourcing here .......
Those who purchase less than a $1000 consignment , pay nothing ( not 10% GST ).
This is quite usual ; camera stuff , software , clothes , shoes ......
Your postal rates are peanuts too. My BX spacers were $34 freight from
CA , but would cost me $ 89 to send back on the same plane. Hardly a
week goes by when I don't have something in transit from the 'States.
At the moment it's Thomastik Infeld strings from NC and a Steiff bear
from CO

If you need financing new is the only way to go, if you don't need financing for the used but would for the new go used bc that 24 will be 27-28 after financing (unless they still have 0% going on:confused:) I like to get new when I can, for both the warranty and it just being "new" and not worrying about what someone else did to their machine.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the info, certainly total agreement about te scoop - that ones gone!!
Still tossing up between new and 2nd hand, I've been offered 22K with a 54" Deck and Loader on the 2360.I tested the 2230 yesterday, did a great job of the lawn. Loader was useful without blowing me away.

To be honest, what I'd really like is a 4in1 bucket but that adds to the cost even more. I know some people who have these though and swear by them.

The idea of shipping from the US did cross my mind, problem is, it's a long way to go for a service!!

Thanks again for your input
