I've have said this for years. Any engineer who designs cars for a living should have to work as a mechanic for at least 1 year and again every 10 years there after. Maybe they wouldn't come up with so many stupid idea. Like gee lets put this oil filter between the firewall and engine.

This reminds me of all the new friends i had after getting back into a truck again. They wanted to use it, told them you are welcome to hit a desler and buy one like I did!

I've always gotten hit up with the help me move but could you bring your truck? It depends but I will usually help as they have helped me. I can see both sides as I just changed my trans cooler lines on my duramax yesterday in my BIL's heated shop with a lift. I always ask at least a week in advance and tell him to let me know if I'm in the way and ill leave. he doesn't usually mind helping out as he hangs out down at the shop most of the time anyway. I do owe him a case or 2 of beer though that I didn't have time to stop and pick up before heading over. If he is grateful and offers some type of compensation its one thing. If he is using you its a completely different animal.

I store my cousins trailer as he lives in a condo but we have an understanding. If its at my house I can treat it as it is mine and use it whenever I please to do so. it works out for both of us. good luck and if it were me I would give hem a deadline and say 10 -20 bucks per day past that.

For most of High School I drove a truck and I can't remember how many friends I helped move...

In a lot of ways... I was glad to sell it.

When I was much younger and even more foolish I let a "friend" change an engine in my garage. He not only left it an oily mess, he left the old engine! A few of my other friends and I delivered the old engine to the front yard of his parent's house. I'm sure he had some 'splainin' to do to his dad. :laughing:

many engineers design some good constructs, then are told to 'break' them, by bean counters...

You are so right. Every mechanic should be required to work as an engineer for one year. :laughing:

the bean counters should have to work as the mechanic, and see how that .5 cents they saved per 1 million units effects repair time when they force the engineer to make a brittle design change that mungs everything up..

That too. But all of us should realize that the jobs of others are a lot more complicated than we think.
